| help need informaiton please ??????? my female and male yorkie have been hooking up for about 3 days at last 3 times, I keep them separate during the day when I am gone but when I am home they are allowed to be toegther. Since they have hooked up 3 times already, my female cant even walk around the house without my male trying to jump her.How do I calm him down so that they can play instead of him always thinking of mating.... he never stops... bad thing is she doesnt stop him??? is this normal ???? I was going to wait till she was 18 months, but when I went on vacation my stepparents let them be together(not my choice) and now I think she might be pregnant. She is 14 months old now. 3rd heat cycle. she cant get any rest. He should have been a stud dog I guess |

| Wow. How about keeping one locked up (or should I say penned up) and giving the girl a break? Her heat cycle won't last forever.

| She needs to rest.. And so does he. If you wanted to breed There are A lot of books out there. That help too. I don't want to upset you but when you let your Girl get PG you are putting her life on the line. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I agree with Daisy - it's your responsibility to keep her protected - he's just doing what he knows to do and it's not his fault but you're taking a big chance with her letting this happen so often.....Good luck |

| She won't stop him as long as she is in standing heat. He won't stop either, it is his nature as a male. If he is an unneutered male that has mated, he is now a stud whether you desire it or not. It is your responsibility to keep them apart and monitored so that neither of them are injured. She probably is pregnant now so you will have to get busy educating yourself so that you can be ready for the whelping. Breeders have to be tough for their dogs own good.

| Thank all of you for your advise. I really love being a part of yorkie talk it helps having so many yorkie people out there to help in these kind of situations. yes I have been reading books to breed them, BUT I was going to wait till her 18 month. We had to go out of town on a family emergency, So the puppies were left with my husband's mom and her new husband. So when I got back, I came home to this...... Protecting her is exactly what I will do. I know having her pregnant puts her at risk. , I am hoping that she is going to be like her mom. She had 3 litters all 6 babies and had no problem delivering. I do put my babies before anything that goes on in my house. I am prepared to give her the royal treatment (not that she dont already get it ). I will keep them separated. He is unbelivable when they are not together. He acts like the world ended. How long does this standing heat cycle last ? She was spotting just before we left on the 30th of May. (told his mom to keep them apart, didnt happen) Will he calm down after she is no longer in heat ? Do I keep them apart now until the birth? What is a good book to get on her pregnancy and welping information. I have about 8 books but they just give the basic information. I am SSSOOOOO glad that you guys are willing to help give information. thank you again... |

| There are two books that I would recommend, The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog by Ann Seranne and The Complete Book of Dog Breeding by Dan Rice. Your boy will never be quite the same but he will calm down once she is no longer in heat. The norm is one week coming, one week in standing, and one week going. You don't need to keep them apart for her pregnancy just until she will no longer accept his advances. Most likely their relationship will change after this as well, seems to just be the way it is.

| Hello, All I can say is I understand what you are going through. I have one in heat now and the males are driving me crazy. They all act like they are possessed and have taken leave of their senses. They have one thing on their mind and that is it. We keep her upstairs and the boys down stairs and take turns letting them out. It comes with the territory of having un neutered males and females in the same house. There is alot of info here about whelping and we will try and answer any questions but I would start researching if I were you. Good luck and remember mistakes can happen to any of us. Just do your best to learn all you can to be as prepared as you can to help her out when the time comes. |

| Thank you for your incouragment. Your right about the males.. My GOD , you would think that they are on a timer and their life depends on it! They are separated now and the only time I let them together is at night to watch tv. But I dont let the male mount her at all, Very hard to do. I was beginning to think that I failed as a yorkie mom since they ended up together at 14 months and not 18 months. wasnt expecting to come home to that ! Again I thank you for your incouragment and I am so very glad I have the yorkie family to help me out... When do you think that I should take her to the vet to see if she is pregnant ? They are not together without being watched now, so maybe she didnt get pregnant ! What do you think guys ? should I shcedule her an appointment next week ? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. |
