| Want to start kennel...but Hi, My name is Holly. I would like to start my own yorkie kennel but here in Yarmouth Nova Scotia I have asked the few reg'd kennels her in NS to sell me breeding rights..none will assist me. One lady even advised me never to start a yorkie kennel??? (then why is she breeding them?) I do not know. However, I am still interested in looking into it, Yorkies are such heart takers/breakers! If you can help...Please do not hesitate to email me! Thanks and God Bless Holly hollysyorkies@eastlink.ca |

| yorkies are so popular that everyone is breeding them. there are so many poor breeding practices out there it makes me sick. breeding yorkies should be left to the experts. these are not dogs that you can just put together and have puppies. my breeder had 3 females lately that gave birth. all three had to have c-sections. she lost some. and she is a breeder of yorkies for 26 years so she knows what she is doing. no one is going to give you breeding rights if you don't have any experience. you need to get a mentor to help you along the way. most people do not like kennels it looks like you have a long venture ahead of you. good luck in your search and i hope someone can help you along the way. also, due to the fact there are so many breeders of the yorkshire terrier, what will set you apart from the rest??????

| i forgot something....in order to have a kennel, you have to have a vet , local city authorities, and spca inspect it at your expense (i think) so you need to have this inplace

| Perhaps I should have metioned, I lived on a farm until I was 36 yrs old BREEDING and RAISING farm animals, as well as CATS and DOGS which all had babies. I am now 45, I have bred purebred German Shepards , pure bred Beagles and I have for the last year bred unregistered Yorkies. some had c-sections as well, some of which died for no apparent reasons. They were VET CHECKED as well. So as for experience, I believe that would qualify me far more than some others out there breeding. Now, as far as "sooo many Yorkshire Terrier breeders", I have checked out most of them near and far from my town...there are not as many as you may think, most sell them without papers. So what makes you such an "expert"??? God Bless! |

| Oh I Forgot! Oh, I forgot something! I studied in Animal and Veterinary Sciences! The SPCA is located right next door, and my best friend is an SPCA employee. My vet lives only ten minutes away, and she has a very good reputation. Our town authorities see no problems!!!!!!!!!! Have a nice day! |

| you never said you were a breeder and also breeding "unregistered yorkies"( big no no imo) i was just trying to help you out but it seems you don't need any help with all of your experience. since you are a new member and seem to have jumped down my throat (not a good way to start out) i will let you be.... you asked for advise and i gave you what i know. since you studied "Animal and Veterinary Sciences" i would think you would know how to start your own kennel also spca is right beside you....then ask them good luck to you in your ventures.

| No ..your right I did not say I was a breeder..that is why I posted you some background information on myself. All I wanted to know is if someone knew where I could buy a dog with rights. As for my breeding yorkies without papers.....that is the reason im looking to purchase such rights...i do not agree with what i am doing and do not want to continue....but as i have said there is no one near here breeding reg.d dogs...but would love to own a yorkie...so..i breed them for a over a year now..no papers! I also have one other reason i would like to have breeding rights...i dont aggree with those breeders who send them in a little crate all over the world...goodness knows what happens to those little doggies... i have a friend who just recieved a yorkie from vancover and the poor thing was so fulll of its own...well...let's not go there shall we? |

| Trying to mediate-- Holly, I hope I don't offend you. Is there a chance that English is not your primary language? I think a little is getting lost in translation. A kennel, in most minds, is a place with several females (10+), stacked up in cages, no human interaction, just breeding babies, little health care, just in it for the money. When you started off with I want to start a kennel, immediately, as yorkie lovers, we all cringed. Now, if you are thinking of becoming a dedicated breeder, starting lines of your own, then there is where Lisa said a mentor is a good way to start.

| I am English only. Perhaps your right...seems im wrong with anything i say on here anyway. Kennel to me means.. 1. a house or shelter for a dog or a cat. 2. Often an establishment where dogs or cats are bred, raised, trained, or boarded. I mean really, if they read my messages..i live near a respectable vet and spca...do they think they would let me run a kennel as in you folks description....i hope not as my friend and i are actually trying to stop one of those going on in the Digby NS area now. Our spca is taking them to court many times. |

| I think different people have dfferent peceptons of what a kennel is. When I was looking at yorkies some breeders had kennel in their name and the dogs were actually housed inside the house. I dont even think all people who house the dogs in a shelter outside their house are all BYBs or puppymills.
