Confused Can you give me your opinion please??

I want to ask breeders what you think of this situation...
I purchased my puppy, paid in full, April 28th but went out of town and picked her up on May 3rd, about 9pm. The next day I noticed her scratching her ears like crazy, so I emailed the breeder to ask if she had noticed this. She said no and maybe it was because she had just shaved her ears (she responded on Friday). I told her I was taking her to her "well puppy check up" the following day (within the 48 hour biz days to have her checked) and would have them check it out. The breeder was leaving town for the weekend.
At the appt they said she had 2 bad ear infections but also could be mites, just wasn't sure. They cleaned out the ears and hair in there and sent home meds for her. I emailed the breeder this info. Monday she emailed saying that one of her dogs has earmites!
I replied that I had a call into her dr to see what he says and that I didn't know much about earmites so asked some questions. I also asked how she felt about covering this portion of the vet bill since she came to me with the infections/earmites and since I informed her the very next day. She just now is replying saying that I should not have had my vet prescribe any meds! That I should have just let him diagnose her and then contact the breeder so she could take her to her vet! Mind you, she was out of town and I would have had to make her suffer at least 2-3 more days! AND when I told her the vet was going to see her, she did not say "well let me know what he says before you treat her!"
So what do you think? I'm I wrong to ask her to reimburse me? Am I wrong to have gotten her immediate treatment? I guess I should add that I paid $2000 for her-not that the price should matter.....

Thank you
LOL-well I really didn't think about even asking her to pay until she said her own dog had earmites! Now she is asking if they ever determined if it was earmites or an infection. But I never had to go back because he said the medication would clear up either and we left it at that.
They charged me $75 for the meds and the ear cleaning! So it kinda was alot, but its just a chip off the $2000 I paid

I have sold a couple of litters before and I myself would certainly reimburse you for your vet expenses. She should have had your puppy treated before you picked her up. I glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious, good luck with your new puppy!

That makes me very sad for your puppy! They can't tell us what is going on with their little bodies...and how awful that she had to deal with this for who knows how long. I can't believe that she does not want to cover the cost to clear up the ear infection! SO WRONG!!!!! I truly think that she owes that to you. I am happy to hear that your sweet baby will be feeling better very soon.

Thank you. Yes, the medicine worked right away and so far nothing has spread to my other girls! Other than that, she has been fine, thank God.

I scanned the itemized vet bill and obviously only asked for the portion that involved the ear. I'll see if she decides to come around....it seems right that she should do this to me so I'm glad to see that others agree....

I know. What got me is that she said I should not have let my vet send her home with meds! Implying that I should have made her suffer longer until she got back in town and could take her to her own vet!
I couldn't do that
So we will see - she hasn't said yes or no, only made those comments in an email and I have since sent her a copy of the bill so she could see herself. I'll wait to hear back before I talk "too" much

I guess my question would be is, how does a dog get ear mites in the first place?

I dunno?? I didn't know much about them. But then she emailed me saying that one of her "new" dogs she got 3 weeks ago, was just diagnosed with them and that the dog must have come to her with them already. 3 weeks seems like a long time to have them with no symtoms?? Poor babies...sounds pretty painful or at least pretty itchy!

Interesting, thank you. I'm very worried about Truffles contracting them now! Shoot! I wonder if I should treat her at the same time since there is plenty of medication to share? Or wait to see if a cycle starts? That will bite --

I think you should ask the vet and see what he says. but it is a good thought.

I think you are supposed to treat ALL DOGS in your home for ear mites when one of them gets it.... but you should confirm that with your vet.

Best of luck.

Well I have a call into the vet asking if I should or if it's safe to just treat them both instead of waiting and finding out 3 weeks later that now the other one has it! That 3 week incubation period is what got me thinking if they are both treated at the same time, less worry about passing it back and forth. I feel like a pest calling him again about it but I have the meds now and don't want to keep going in and keep paying either....thanks you guys for your input too
Still nothing from the breeder on what she will do....
