I was lucky in getting my first show dog. I learned alot on my own and even took a "pet" in the ring just to learn how. I am so lucky to have found my mentors the way I did. I attented several dog shows and knew I was hooked!! I was very lucky with getting great mentors. Also, being involved with horses helped alot!! I sort of lucked out without having to travel with anyone before I got my show dogs. But I will say do your homework and get with a great mentor and learn all you can because learning is just as much fun as participating in the ring. The love of the breed should consume all those that are involved with either having just a pet or the show dog Learn all you can and have fun!!

I can relate to so much you said here. I too learned alot on my own and just went for it one day. I'll never forget it. I was hooked from then on and haven't stop soaking in as much knowledge as I can possibly get ever since.
I've had alot of fun showing and meeting people who share my interests. I also have two great mentors, one who guides me, encourages me, keeps me focused.. and one who teaches me the physical aspects (handling)
The first time I stepped into a show ring I did not even know how to do a topknot. Good thing I took a puppy that day,
So far, other than the dogs I've handled for other's, the only dogs that I personally own that I have shown were bred by me. Our new yorkie is the first time I've owned and shown a dog that I didn't breed and that does add more pressure because all you can think is not letting that person down and making them proud with their decision to place with you. I'm very thankful to have the experiences of the actual shows under my belt so that now days I can focus on my dog and not "what am I supposed to do now". Any of you other newbies will certainly relate to what I mean.

If you have to wait for six months would be well worth the wait!!

First, thank you for the compliment. I just want to say that in that line there is only a drop of Nicnak, all the years and years of hard work go to Linda Dahn of Aeros yorkshire terriers, someone I am proud to call a friend. Not only is she a great breeder but a wonderful person as well.
When one is looking at a dog pay attention to the sire and the dam, that will tell you who the credit of the dog goes to. There are those out there that buy dogs from others and call it "their line". A first generation does not make it your line, it takes years of dedication before you can call it that.

Good Luck with Brooklyn I am sure he will finish fast.

Thank you Cher, you are a credit to the breed that we love.

Are you diva pup breeding and or showing these days? If so, we'd LOVE to hear some of your experiences. We all who are showing AND OR breeding these wonderful little dogs all know to well how much of a learning experience this is from day one and it never really ends. I am just curious if the folks who seem to continuaslly question others have actually walked in their shoes or if they are getting their info from another source, a side source so to speak...
Thanks... no arguement intended guys. Just a legitimate question coming from a long time yorkie person who has worked hard and has the passion of the breed in my blood.
Not yet, but her beautiful Mignon is a Nicnak Yorkie, so is her little Stevie Wonder and her new show dog will be as well
Love you Dawn,
Laurie

I agree
Dawn is a very lucky lady indeed to have your beautiful dogs in her home!
I have found myself at times getting lost in your website just gazing at some of your beauties. I was really impressed with your girl who won the veteran class, she is fabulous.
Take care,

You're welcome! I give credit where credit is due I have no lines as of yet and will not for a very long time because as you stated it takes years and years of "long hard" dedication to start ones own lines I have heard nothing but great things about Linda and Aero's pedigree and also your own and yes we know (Radar's breeder) that Radar is of the Aero lines

Brooklynn is my kennel name LOL! Thank you for wishing us good luck Radar is a nice dog and he's doing very well in the ring

I can answer your question for you. Laurie has been a dear friend of mine for 3 years,I have been mentored by her for 2 and I have stayed in her home and am going again soon She has worked very very hard to get where she is and you have to walk the gauntlet to get a dog from her for show.
It has taken me that long to gain her trust and to give me a show dog. Laurie said to tell you she does not sell show dogs, no offense meant to you personally.

Hope that helps.

I did not realize that.....yes, thanks so much for the info......I would still be attempting to connect with her....dahhhhh......guess, I am slow on the uptake....he he he....I do appreciate your help a lot.
