Star how much should a puppy gain?

My 3 year old Yorkie Chloe had her first litter on Friday night, a whopping 6 puppies!! I am concerned about the weight differences, ranging from 24 grams to a piddly 13 grams. How much weight should a puppy gain each day? Please advise quickly...and when (if at all) should I give a milk supplement to the little one?

13 grams = 0.457 ounce. That cant be right, I don't think 1/2 ounce yorkie would live. ???????

I posted on your other thread. Are you sure that their weight is grams and not ounces?????? My smallest was 3 ounces up to 5 ounces out of a litter of 4.

Gracie pre-pregnancy was 4 1/2 lbs. Daddy was closer to 5. This is his 3rd litter to father and has thrown small pups everytime.

Thanks for all the wonderful attention! This is the greatest thing and I am so excited that I have someone (lots of someones) out there to help and advise me! thankyou so much.
First of all, you are right, the scale says 0.13. but that means 130 grams!! But that is converted to 4 ounces, so weight wise they are OK. I will buy calcium today.
The mother (Chloe) is about 9 lbs, a good size, and seems to be feeding them all OK. I am weighing them everyday, but what is an acceptable weight gain? when should I worry? They are all very active, moving around and not crying much, so I assume(??) that they are getting enough to eat. I will send pics ASAP.
You guys really made my day, and I am so pleased that now I have a place to really talk about my babies, ( I also have a german shepherd puppy, 5 mos old, a whippet and 3 quarter horses) and now I have a place to share with other animal lovers. TAke care to all, and thanks.

A good rule of thumb is...they should double their birth weight by the time they are 7 days old. Good luck and can't wait to see pictures!

Finally got 2 pics in member's gallery- son helped.
I will learn how to fix the pics to fit into the size allowance myself or die trying...sweat sweat..!
Maybe now I will invest in a digital camera (welcome to the new millenium)
I am weighing them religiously (didn't bother with my own kids haha)
Little one isn't gaining as much as I would like. Keeping a close eye on her.
Stay tuned...

Hi! How are the babies? I have 5 babies, they will be two weeks tomorrow. My Zowie was about 8-9 pounds, I think she is 9-10 now. The babies were 4, 4, 5, 6, 6 oz, now 17, 17, 13, 13, 8 - my little one didn't gain weight for about three days, I have been monitoring him very closely ever since.
