Default Do YOU Microchip?

The breeder i adopted my last two babies from is now starting to microchip them herself. Do any of you gals do this or are planning to do this? I looked up the prices and they are very reasonable....about 13.00 and it is just like giving a shot.

let me know what you gals think of this.
thanks

Since the AKC requires some sort of identification and leaning toward mircochipping all my dogs are microchipped. Will begin to do my own. Home Again...is what my dogs are identified....If you go to their website, prices are not cheap to get the start up kit.....scanner, chips, etc. But when you investigate the price of a vet doing it....more cost effective to do it yourself...Do, you know that actual cost of each chip $00.10, amazing huh?

Since I didn't start breeding early on, and only had pets, I didn't find it necessary to do it myself.....As things progressed, it's just more cost effective.

my question is...why would you want a scanner? is there something i am missing? i don't want to pay for something i don't need.
what do you use your scanner for?

Well it's easier to identify that way...if there is any question to whether the dog is yours or not...I know you have the registration papers for the dog.....but that doesn't identify the dog as yours......Besides, hubby (unpaid kennel help) sometimes does get them confused when he's putting them to bed at night.....So now a scanner helps him match up the right baby to the right kennel....It makes him feel better that he's doing everything correctly....

Chanel's breeder microchips the pups herself before they go to their new homes.

So do I, the only thing that I don't do is register them with the Home Again Center database...that I leave for the new families so that their information is their and they don't have to go in a change it.

So do I, with the exception of show prospects....as show breeders may have their own method and miro chip brand. The only thing that I don't do is register them with the Home Again Center database...that I leave for the new families so that their information is their and they don't have to go in and change it.

Thats right, we had to register her at the database ourselves too.

This is very interesting. I think I'm going to do some research on this as I was wondering about it myself.
