Question Too small to breed?

Is it safe to breed a 3.5lb female yorkie?

Five pounds is what we look at. But weight is not the only factor when deciding to use a bitch for breeding.....bone density, pedigree, health, measurement of their reproductive areas.....and knowing if the female comes from a line of free whelpers......

I agree 3 1/2 pounds is way to little to consider breeding.

She's just an itty bitty girl. Not meant to be a mommy, just meant to be a princess!

Wink Has anyone had a female give birth under 4lbs.

I'd think to have little ones under 4 lbs mom and dad had to be small too...or with the male small...is enough.I'm taking my girl to the vet tomorrow...if anyone hasn't read my story...my little one who is 3.8 lbs might be expecting from a much larger breed(Scottish terrier). However I dont see any changes in her size,in the last few days...just her nipples and pads under and she seems to be heavier and have a little bump in her lower left abdomen, her vulva is enlarged too....But I agree little ones are meant to be just little darling princess....Things like what i'm going thru shouldn't happen to those that have spayed their females.I was just ignorant and thought she would never be exposed...My pray is for a false pregnancy and just hormonal problems.

Good luck to all that have pregnant or soon to deliver ....I'm so new and ignorant to this but never wanted to learn from a negligent mistake.I'll keep all updated tomorrow after we go to thr vet....happy sunday everyone is beautiful, sunny and windy and with many allergies here in Oklahoma city.

My Bitsy gave birth on April 11th to two male pups.... she is normally 3 1/2 pounds... no problem with the delivery. The dad is 3.3 pounds... not exactly the situation you are going through.....

You can see my Bitsy's pups on my website.

www.freewebs.com/gurleysyorkies

Your vet should be able to tell you if her pelvic area is big enough to pass puppies.

My Lucy who is normally 5 pounds or a little over has a harder time delivering pups lately... her pups seem to be getting bigger with each pregnancy. She is being spayed on May 1st.

I've never had c-sections performed with any of my females.

Alll the best to you.
