| Have you heard of this breeder? Shirley Brown? I bought my puppy from what I THOUGHT was a reputable kennel (they do boarding, grooming, and according to their website, "sell puppies from carefully selected reputable breeders." Well, this is in Maryland. My puppy's registration papers came today and he came from a breeder in Missouri. Very far away, and no offense to anyone that lives or is a breeder there, but known for puppy mills. I immediately called the kennel, was assured that they only deal with breeders (not puppymills-although some people can't seem to tell the difference ) and to call back tomorrow when the owner is in and should provide me with more info on this breeder. In the meantime, has anyone heard of a breeder named Shirley Brown in Missouri? My puppies parents are Princess Pandamonia and Brown's Tom. I'm going to be in touch with her because I want to see pics of the parents out of curiosity, but I kind of want to know what I'm dealing with before hand. Please don't lecture me I know this all should have been done before hand, but I was inexperienced and didn't know what to do responsibly before getting a puppy. Needless to say I am going to carefully do my research next time.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Who's to say. I wonder, though...the person you got your pup from...did they actually go to Missouri and meet this breeder? How can they guarantee that their dogs DON'T come from mills unless they go and see for themselves?

| Very good question. I'm definetly going to ask them that. This has me so upset. I thought my puppy came from a local breeder, this has really opened my eyes.

| I am always leary of people that "can find you a puppy". That says broker to me. Not lecturing you at all because we all make mistakes (Lord knows I have made my fair share of them) but when we know better, then we do better next time. I wish you luck in finding the breeder so you can get an idea where your puppy comes from. |

| Thank you so much!!! I'm at my mom's right now but as soon as I get home I'm checking his papers for a kennel name or address to see if this is the same Shirley Brown. Right now I'm calling the "kennel" (aka broker ) and asking them how exactly my ten week old puppy made it from Missouri to MD. I'm also telling them since they sold me this puppy they are responsible for giving me information about the breeder. But I guess I am very lucky too. My baby is spirited and healthy and gorgeous, and I know better for next time. What is that list? Is it USDA breeders? Ill cross reference the address. Thank you CO_yorkie_momma for posting this for me. I'll let you guys know what I find out, hoping its good

| Yes, that is a list of USDA breeders. The Shirley Brown on that list appears to have a Class A USDA license according to THIS link. Class A Licensees: are breeders dealing only in animals they breed and raise. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/dealer/requirements.pdf Seems like she breeds her own dogs and sells them - not selling or breeding random dogs. Hope that helps! Good luck with whatever you may find! |
