| Linebreeding, does anyone do it? I have recently become very iinterested in linebreeding, because of all the herditary diseases and defects out there. I would like to know of anyone who practices this or has anything to say about it. |

Line breeding is the most commonly used breeding program, as it retains true virtues of a line, but it also introduces new blood. The only way to set type on a good dog is to linebreed. Outcrossing only brings in so many other problems that you will never find them and never breed true to type. INBREEDING AND LINE-BREEDING Inbreeding consists of the inter-mating of relatives, and it is virtually impossible to breed pedigree stock of any kind without having some relationship somewhere . Once a breed is established, it is impossible to breed a male and female within this breed without finding some ancestors in common. It may be so far back that you can't trace them, but by inbreeding these common ancestors, your breed was formed. Most breeders consider "outcrossing" as breeding stock who are completely unrelated in the last six generations. This is as far as most breeders trace their stocks' ancestry, unless they have personally linebred for a longer period of time. "Line-breeding" is considered to be merely a mild or less intense form of inbreeding. Mating of distant cousins, or mating dogs who come from the same kennel and same strain but who have no common ancestors closer than four or five generations behind them.

| I am wanting to buy a stud, but I am afaid to because of all the herditary issues that dogs can carry, I already have a yorkie with so many problems, I dont want to get stuck with another one. So I guess a breeder who has been linebreeding and knows there lines are the best way to go, right? Does anyone know anyone who linebreeds? |

track record. It's not a simple going out and finding breeder that line breeds. Someone that is well known in the yorkie world for their reputation in producing healthy, sound dogs that are a wonderful representation of the breed Finding such a person is the first step. However, obtaining a stud from that person will not be that easy.

| I get the impression you have been doing your homework, possibly know more than some who are already breeders.......good for you! I wish you nothing but the best and hope you find many answers to your questions here. Opinions will vary, so be very selective where advice comes from Best wishes! Jess
