| if you lived in kentucky, you would let them go at six weeks. most people here do but i don't. i usually keep mine until 12 weeks but am letting one go next week at ten weeks. she is ready. i am going to start evaluating each puppy to decide. i hear leave them with mom and people put you down if they go before twelve weeks. but my mama's are long past where they are trying to teach them anything. i mean, the girls are done!!!!!! it doesn't make you a bad breeder if they leave before 12 weeks contrary to popular opinion. the most important thing is that you do what is best for your puppy and no one but you knows that. |

| 12 weeks at the earliest. After weaning moms have much more training to do, socializing, manners, ranking order, etc. Puppies should never leave before their 2nd series of shots and being vet checked. Since 1st series is not given before 8 weeks of age and the 2nd not until the 3 or 4 weeks after....that would bring you to 12 weeks. Besides that you as a breeder should be socializing the puppies and making sure that potty training is completed.

| Hi Debbie - you know I'm not a breeder, but for what it is worth..... I think you need to evaluate the size of the puppy and also if they are going to a person who has owned yorkies before. If the pups are very tiny, I would keep them longer, especially if going to a first time yorkie owner. If they are good sized (2 lbs or larger) and going to an experienced yorkie owner, I think 10 weeks would be fine.

| i woiuld think I would deffintly think that with yorkies and all small dogs that the babies should stay with there mommies for atleast 12 weeks after birth , not only because they are so small but also because they need more care then most dogs , because they are so so so fragile , I would keep them 12 weeks but start advertising sooner that way you have time to screen the buyeers to make sure the little ones are going to a great loving wonderfull home |

I say 10-12 weeks depending on the dog and the person. I let 2 go at 10 weeks before...both times because the persons getting the pups were able to make arrangments to take time off work to dedicate their time fully to the adjustment of the dog. I felt given the situation, 10 weeks with full attention was better than 12 weeks with less attention. | |

No it's not unheard of, not just in KY....but, is letting them go at such an early age beneficial for the pup (especially a toy breed)? But, since I'm a member of the Mother Club I must follow a code of conduct/ethics. Puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve weeks of age to facilitate adequate socialization as well as appropriate emotional and temperament development through interaction with siblings, dam and other dogs. Pups must not and will not leave my home without a minimum of to innoculations.
