some questions for the breeders Hi, I am looking for some kind of answers, because i am in no way a breeder...My yorkie poo just had a litter of puppies with my full blooded yorkie. First question is this: How much of a price would you sell them for...i know since she is not full blooded then it is considered a mixed breed...but in the same respect, she has nothing that would make her even look like a poodle....and no, i'm not going to sell them as yorkies only, the people who will buy them will be told they are yorkie poos'. Second question: How does the female handle it when her puppies start to dissappear? You know, people come to buy them, and i know by that time they are weaned and all, but isn't it hard on the mom to have her puppies go? I worry about her mental health as well, because my female is a special one....she's very intune to me and those around her....do they get depressed or suffer from anything like that? I respect and appreciate any advice that you can give me, i'm just looking for input that will be helpful. thanks again, yorkiemomma7

I bought them for my little nieces that always wanted a yorkie but i didn't think A tiny yorkie was suitable for them at their age. They looked just like a yorkie but more bone and more hardy for younger children. The 2 pups I got for them grew to be between 7 & 8 pounds. Quote:

| mixed breed dogs shouldn't be sold. there are way to many in pounds and shelters. i hope you can find good homes for them. this is jmho im sure many people feel different but i just don't like designer or mixed breed dogs..there's nothing wrong with purebreeds and i do not see why people would mix two different purebred dogs for a mixed breed

How much to sell them for? I think 25.00 - 50.00 is about right for around my area. The price is not an insult, so please do not take it as that. This is a mix breed and around my area are sold as that. I know it is hard and a loss of money since you have to get them their shots and vet check ups. I am sure they are cute. Mom feelings when they are going to their new homes? By the time they are ready to go - mom is fine. T.

| IMHO....just place them into a loving pet home, don't worry about registrations or money. Mixed breeds as an accidental breeding should just be placed in a good and loving home and make sure it doesn't happen again That's the responible and moral thing to do especially if you're not a breeder and know the family history. | Yorkie Poos sell for about $600.00 or more where I live I saw them in the paper when I was looking for my Yorkie I am sure they are adorable! The mixed breed puppies seem to be very popular lately. I have a half Yorkie half Maltese and I love her to death. Last edited by ashley809; 04-03-2007 at 07:02 AM. |

If you are set on selling them with hopes of making money, then check your local paper to see the prices. If you don't find any, then just run an ad and see what happens. Check for prices on other mixed breeds. Obviously, there is no way to register these dogs, so I would think the price would reflect that. As stated before, though, this is the day of the "designer dog" (sadly), so some people will pay alot for those mixed breeds. Good luck! Be picky about who you allow to purchase those babies, too!

Aren't YorkiePoos (I cringe even using that term) from 2 full blooded parents? These are more York than Poo, correct? Personally, I would try to focus on finding them loving homes and if you can get some of the money you've put into the litter back, consider it a bonus. And usually, by the time the pups are ready to go, the mom is a bit less protective and not AS concerned when they leave. Congrats on a heathy litter.

these are my two dogs. The really furry one is the male...the other is my female. To me she looks way more york than poodle. JMO, is there actually any way to tell, besides having the paperwork to say? Just a question.....i didn't know if you could get some sort of test done to actually see. Either way, thank to all of you who've responded to this topic...i appreciate all of your suggestions, and you've helped me to learn alot about this breed and give me valuable information. yorkiemomma7

actually to the last commentor before my last post, you asked weren't yorkie -poos from two different full blooded parents...I have no idea. When i bought my female, they "said" she was bred between a poodle and a yorkie, that is why i am calling her litter yorkie-poos. But, without the paperwork from the people i bought her from i have no actual proof. i did take her to the vet when i bought her and he asked me if she was mixed ...and i just told him what the sellers had told me. To look at her and then look at some of the different photos on the internet of actual full blooded yorkies, i couldn't tell a difference...but unless there is some actual blood test or other breed identifying test that can be done, i will never know. She doesn't have the "fluffy" coat, hers is more fine haired...She doesn't have wavy hair, it straight, and etc....she has the coloring (black, turning blue and gold) as a yorkie, she is very tiny build. I don't know of any other distinguishing characteristics that i could go by. I had posted pics in my last post so maybe some of you could see her for yourselves... yorkiemomma7

on the cost of yorkie-poos...after talking to several people who do breed the "Designers" they charge anywhere b/w 500-1350.00 (which is a lot for mixed breeds) but people are buying them left and right, and yes there are plenty of mixed breeds in the pound, but how many are the sought after toy breeds? i do know there are small breed rescues with small breeds but usually they have medical issues or are older, and unfornunately not sought after. you can always start out higher then you really intend to sell them, and come down if you have any problems placing them.. a lady i talked to said that her first litter of yorkiepoos was by accident, she lives in tx, she posted in the paper 150.00, several people from up north called and asked if it was a miss print, thinking it was supposed to say 1500.00 and they were willing to pay that. (but thats not what she sold them for) and i know some people will not agree with me or the other breeder but that fact remains, people want these "designer pups" i personally love both JMO

I would think a "Yorkie Poo" would be ANY mix of Yorkie and Poodle if I read an ad in the paper myself. Maybe upon placing one however you could just put the title as Yorkie Poo and then include 3/4 Yorkie 1/4 Poodle. That actually might even be more desirable to some people because they are mostly Yorkie

Yorkies and poodles are my 2 favorite breeds. I own one of each........I cringe at the thought of people purposely mixing the two or other designer breeds.....
