| Yorkshire - Biewer - Parti-Yorkie, confused! I would like to get some opinions. We are looking for a female to add to our family currently as a pet only. Will we breed? Maybe. All of our dogs have/had papers and are/were champ sire and lines and we never have. We have looked at the Biewer, the Parti-Yorkie and the Yorkshire Terrier. We have 2 Yorkshire Terriers, both males. We LOVE the coloring of the Biewer (more so than parti), the tempermant and their build. There is a lot of warnings out there about being the real thing and this week a breeder in Hungary played some crazy games with us, we were heartbroken and still looking... We LOVE Yorkshire Terrier BUT have a lot of fear buying a Yorkshire as there are a lot of bad lines, mills and let's just say people doing the wrong things with them, or we could be here all day. It seems the Parti is more scary?? since it is fairly new any problems which may arise have not yet been discovered? It also seems that breeding the Biewer and the Yorkshire is not advisable nor acceptable? Any advise, comments and yes criticisms are welcomed. Thanks!! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | The scheme of things is this: Biewers are to be bred to Biewers. some folks are breeding Splitters (1/2 Yorkie, 1/2 Biewer) to Biewers with permission of the breed clubs. Parti Yorkies are no longer going to be recognized by AKC. Biewers follow the Yorkie's standards except for color. Take a look at my website for pictures and more info. |

Parti Yorkies are registered by AKC, but since their color is not the breed standard (only blue and gold and blue and tan is the standard) Parti's will not be able to show in some AKC events. Please go to my Yorkie History page and at the bottom of that page, a link will take you to my Parti Yorkie information page, which will give you a better understanding about the parti gene and parti yorkies.

| Off colored Yorkshire Terriers are will still be able to be AKC registered. The abiity to do so is by entering a 3-digit, as requested under the Markings section of the registration form. The disqualification for off-colored yorkies has recently been voted into place by the YTCA membership.

So it's not AKC "who will not recognize the Parti colored yorkies", it's YTCA? I feel really bad for all those YTCA members who own and breed black/tan and black/gold coated yorkies since they will now be disqualified since they are considered off colored too. Or is the off colored dogs only going to be disqualified in the show ring?

| I'm not sure where anyone got their info about the parti color no longer being registered by the AKC. I'd like to know where that information came from. For the original poster. buying any purebred dog is risky, buying a dog as popular as the yorkie is 10 times riskier. there are pople out there mass producing all sorts of dogs and calling them yorkies. My advice is to buy from a reputable breeder and you won't get taken. don't buy from any breeder unless you can get other peoples opinions on them. There are some very reputalbe breeders of the parti and standard colored yorkies, in Bonzall Ca. Just do your homework. |

What is it exactly that you are saying and where did you get your information? YTCA has been fighting the parti color for years, but they don't control the AKC.

Parti color yorkies are not going to go away. Eventually a breed club will be established for them. As with any new breed, these things take time. Right now buying a parti is risky because there are a lot of fakes out there. You need to make sure that you are buying from a reputable breeder. Research the parti line and look at pedigrees. I would not purchase any parti that does not lead back to Rolls Royce Ashley. .

I am a YTCA member and just voted on this disqualification. Any opening of the standard by a parent club must be done in conjuction and approval of AKC. The Standard was written by YTCA.

So if any color other than blue (i.e. black) enter the show ring, they will automatically be disqualified?

Well, let me add to Jeanie's post: Parti yorkies are not a new breed, just a new color that's been around for years but because of the standards set by YTCA, colors like Parti and Chocolate have been kept a secret, sold as unregistered or even destroyed. I'm not sure why black/tan and black/gold are more accepted (because they are off colored too, as per YTCA standards) and Parti and chocolate are not accepted? I guess if black, parti, or chocolate yorkies want to show, we could come up with a new breed registry called the Rainbow Yorkie Assoc.? This idea would cover all the "off colored" yorkies!
