| I usually put her in the bathroom sink right after whelping, just to rinse off her hind legs and hind end with warm water. Then a quick blow dry, while hubby cleans out the whelping pen and puts clean bedding into the whelping box. I don't give a full bath for 2 weeks. I shave their ears all the way down before they open their eyes, then once a week there after. I don't begin the weaning process until approximately 5 or 6 weeks, when they have lil teeth, but begin sooner if the litter is just taking too much from mom by supplementing with Gerbers Rice Ceral, Esbilac and a small of White Karo Syrup. But, let mom set the pace for complete weaning.

| Drying the mom really well is very important because of the pups nursing. You don't want them to get cold plus mom is more susceptable to stuff during this time too. |

Bathe your mom with a gentle puppy shampoo and make sure that she is rinsed and dried well. I also make sure that her breasts are kept clean with baby wipes. If you take her outside to potty, make sure that her feet, breast and potty areas are cleaned before putting her back with babies. I bathing the next day can put undue stress on mom, since she won't want to be away from babies for an extended period of time. Undue stress can interrupt milk supply.

| My vet said I could bathe after 1 week after mom settled down a bit and use a mild baby shampoo and be sure to rinse well so no residue is left on the teats. I started shaving ears at 4 weeks and also started giving some soft food then but she didnt actually wean them till about 7-8 weeks.
