Default On pins and needles!

Many have read my story you can locate the whole thing on "please help : (". Anyway Scout is now 13 days old and weighs 12.5 oz. She has never losed a single thing she has always gained (I weigh her in the morning and at night). Her tail is finally on the mend and she is bonding great with the momma = )

But I read all these horror stories of breeders losing their pups... and I just couldn't take that. The vet said she is in perfect health and growing just like she should... but I am so terrified that I am going to find her one of these days not alive I could barely even type that.

My husband says I am over reacting... but I have seen all of your stories and I know differently. Scout gets sturdier and stronger every day... but will there be a day I can just take a deap breath?

I appreciate all the help and support this site has given me... I would be lost without you all. The vets only give so much support

Oh and by the way... her eyes aren't open yet... should I be worried?

Lonely? Maybe YT is full of Bears fans and they're still recuperating from yesterday??

To answer your question...no, you're not a nutcase...I'd be worried too and I'm not pregnant!

Is there an age where the risk of losing them goes down? I know anything can happen... but is she out of immediate danger if she continues her current path of health?

Again she will be two weeks tomorrow = )

I have never bred but have been researching & I print out all kinds of info & make notes for time lines for from moms heat all the way thru the pups birth & formula recipes, puppy developement etc. The research helps. I dont remember the site I used but heres one that you can see when the eyes generally open etc. http://www.chihuahualoving.com/PuppyGrowthStages.html
What a sweet little pup. Good Luck w/everything.

Default puppy

The first two weeks are high risk...then it improves. I never relax totally, but at 12 weeks I feel 99% assured they will survive. She looks healthy and content..keep her warm and well fed, don't drop or step on her as she grows, watch what she puts in her mouth, keep her penned when you can't watch her closely and the rest is up to God. Her eyes should open in the next day or so...
Best wishes

That is exactly what I was looking for. I never expected to fully relax... I am an over-protective mom by nature... but I just wanted some assurance that she had a really good chance of being okay
She is still in her whelping box 98 % of the day. When she starts moving around I have small ex-pen for her and mom. My house is full of baby gates and is completely baby proofed... so I am confident she will not get into something she shouldn't. Thank you for your advice I need all the direction I can get.
One more question... when should I allow the Dad in the picture. He has been separated thus far and we have allowed him to smell the baby. Our male is extremely gentle...but I just want to know what is best for baby. Tucker (our male) seems afraid of the puppy right now.

Default Dad

You can let him visit and sniff her a few times a day...you will be watching him. I had the most gentle of males, but if a baby tried to nurse...my macho males freaked out, they jumped like they were shot..and it would scare some puppies. Others would lay down and let them try to find a "man boob...I was rarely concerned about my tiny adult males, some were only 2 to 3 pounds and not much bigger then the pups at times....but the bigger ones could be too frisky for them.

My very worse adult was a 3 pound spayed female..KC hated puppies once they started walking..

When they are weaned, I had play time with me in the room...some males used to flip them over to check them out..none acted mean, but more like a rough big brother at times...by 12 weeks I rarely had to be concerned, they were family...but I never penned them together with other adults..and would spritze them with Bitter Apple if any adults was to rough..they were so funny. They walk a big circle around any spritzed puppies...alot depends on her size..right now she looks like she may be small..her muzzle is short also.

I wouldn't leave them alone... but eventually I will have to. We are keeping Scout. That is why I want to make sure they are somewhat familiar with each other. Dad is 7lbs so I wouldn't have him around much until Scout is much much bigger. Mom is 5lbs and we are hoping Scout will be somewhere in the middle. It will be a long time before all three dogs will get to be together, but I want them to be one big happy family with us.
