My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Outside Studding Question I have a bitch lined up for my stud Brodie. My concerns are when they met on Sunday she was not very friendly to him and we did not let them get near eachother. Brodie is very friendly and is socialized with my females so they all get along and when they are ready they let him know. With this outside breeding, will the bitch be excepting of Brodie once she is ready? She had just started to swell on the Wednesday before and just started to spot that day(Sunday)...so she has a while to go yet. My concerns are for my male. I assist, but I still have concerns and hoping she changes once she is accepting of my male. |

| bitch Some bitch are always nasty, ready or not...I rarely bred a strange bitch unless she was muzzled..sounds harsh, but those soft nylon muzzles are made for a reason...and I have a few scars to show when I didn't use one on someones bitch. |

| right! That is sooo true!! I always start an unproven stud with a real sweetie..nothing gets them upset...infact they court the male and show him the ropes..LOL Once the male gets a bit of experince, they will take anything on...just as long as they know you are there to protect them...had one little guy who used to jump on my shoulder (I sit on the floor) if the girl was a sumo wrestler! ..that meant he wanted me to hold her so she couldn't turn around and perhaps nip him..smart little squirt. |

| I have a ? I understand using not using a virgin bitch with an unproven stud, could be traumatizing for both. Mardelin just said that a virgin bitch can ruin a good stud, my question, is when does the virgin bitch get used? I'm assuming you'll really have to know you're male (choose a really experienced one) and pray she takes well to the experience? |

| Certainly. In my post above, I didn't mean to just throw them together (they can seriously get hurt) but it sure looks like that how I meant it lol. Now, gently holding and hoping for a smooth breeding, that's more like it. |

I don't want to get bit either! I guess I won't know until she's ready and we bring the two of them together. This is the bitch's first time, 3 years old ....but a complete spoiled mamas girl. She will not be staying at my home, the owner has chosen to bring her each time. Last edited by Breny; 01-23-2007 at 12:06 PM. | |

| breeding I have used unproven on unproven...but they were my dogs and they were used to each other...and sometimes you get a very laid back female who will co-operate at any time...so I can not always say ..NEVER used unproven with unproven..just depends on how calm they bitch is... |

| Have you drawed up a contract protecting both owners from liability incase one would get hurt? Also I would get the money upfront & give a reciept that you will refund if they dont make contact or let them try again next heat if they do but it doesnt take. I have known of people asking to take a look at someones stud & then to see if they would get along....next thing they've mounted & the person just says well we'll be in touch when we're ready to breed stud trickery. So if anyone wanted to stud I'd get the contract & money day one of heat, then they could bring their dog over anytime, other wise if they put her down-they get locked up & fight-they get mad & leave, it takes you a few minutes but you suddenly realize that you never got paid & they are driving down the road sing free puppies free puppiesits my birthday My girl is a virgin. I am thinking about breeding her, its scary but I have found a experienced male & my girl is very sweet so I hope it goes well-Good luck |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | My boy wears a belly band ( I know they aren't 100% ) And the female never left her owners lap. They had no contact. They will have NO contact until the money is paid and the contract is signed by us both. Yes, I have a contract and she has it and once she decides "for sure", I've ask for that back signed , with a copy of her AKC paperwork, and her payment. Her girl is going for a vet checkup today, and once everything is a go with her vet, we are on. |

| I would like to know what everyone thinks is a reasonable price for a male stud?? I bought a male for breeding about a year and a half ago, and unfortunately, he was not breeding material, so I had him neutered. I am still wanting to breed and wondering what the going rate is. I would also like to know how involved the stud owner generally is or should be in the entire process as I would really want assistance / advise during whelping as I would be soooo nervous doing it by myself the first time. and..how do I go about finding a stud in my area?? (sorry for overtaking this thread, but since it was along the same line....). |
