My puppies are 19 days old today... My puppies are 19 days old today. I have 3 males and 1 female. This is my babies first litter. I want to make sure that I do everything correctly. I am supposed to start weening the pups off the mom at 4 weeks right? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this, and what food to use? Also, the pups should have their first shots at 6 weeks? And their second shots when? And they should be ready to go home at 12 weeks right? Thanks so much for your help!

| Hi Tiff congrats...on your new additions weaning you pups should start at about 4 weeks I use royal canin "baby puppy food" wet it a bit (not a lot) then warm in the micro..let it absorb the water them mash it up for about a week or two...they love it. You can add a bit of canned food (I dont) I feed this 4-5 times a day, they should be totally weaned by about 5 weeks. Also I keep a small bowl of the dry and a seperate bowl of water in the paypen so they can free feed. Be prepared its fun but a mess. Pups get the food everywhere including all over them Ive attached a pic of 3 messy little pups. As they age less mashing and eventually no water added...I free feed, dry food and water available 24-7. I begin shots at 6 weeks and again in 3-4 weeks (no longer) my babies leave with 2 shots at 12 weeks old. I ask the new owners to bring back their pup at n/c for the third shot. They need a series of three do not use LEPTO EVER on a Yorkie! hope this helps

pups We all do it differently..I have asked several vets about time for vaccine and I give.. 8-12-16..they still have two shots before leaving at 12 weeks. Some perfer 6 weeks to start, but the moms antibodies are still protecting at 6 weeks I am told. Sometimes mine are so small at 6 weeks and that concerns me to give a shot.

Tiff Congrats on your new puppies. Kimberly, that pic made me giggle. I am also wondering what Lepto is. I looked up Mya's vaccination papers and it only says Vanguard Plus 5 and for deworming, pyrantel pamoate. Regards, Cyn

I also use 8-12-16 week schedule. I have researched on vet school sites and that seems to be the most current info. I never give Lepto-75% all all reactions to vaccines are caused by the "L" part of the serum. Also, unless you live in an area where corona is an issue, it is not recommended either.. Vets are different but my vets are well versed in toy breeds which is the only vet I would use for these toy breeds.
