At that age and that weight, I'd say he wouldn't gain another 8oz but you need to look at the size of his parents. If they are a lot bigger than him, he could keep slowly growing till he's 15 months old. Sylvia

Parents are 4lbs and 6lbs.

He's 9 months old and he weighs about 3#, his parents are 4 and 6#. Looking at the size of his parents, I would say he COULD grow another pound but at his age I think he's pretty well grown. The vets say that the bone structure is set by the time they are 6 months old but my Pirogue would be very fat at 11# if that were true. He's a little over 2 1/2 years and he grew and grew like Jacks Beanstalk. LOL Sylvia

wow Peeka is 8 months his mom was 4.5lbs and dad was 3.2 and Peeka is 4.3 so do you think he is done growing? Kinda scary isn't it when they are so tiny!

If he's that big at that age and his parents are those sizes I'd say he's probably going to be his mama's size or a little bigger. I don't know how often or rare it is for a puppy to be bigger than it's biggest parent. I do know that it's better to look at the grandparents sizes to predict the size of their grandbabies.

I have a litter right now that have a 3.12# father, 6.12# mother, 2.12 grandfather, 5# grandfather, 3# grandmother and and 8# grandmother. None of these babies look like the are going to reach 5# and maybe not 4.8#. But the last litter by the same parents threw a 3# female and a 6#male. The female has tiny bones so I don't think she's gonna get bigger but the brother may grow another pound or may just go to his mother's weight. The other 2 brothers should be about 4.8#. Sylvia

Princess threw a lovely litter of three. After about 3 weeks I could tell that that one of the females was going to be large. At 8 weeks the male is small with a small frame little legs small body weighs in at 13ounces. The other female is the same however she has a longer body weighs in at 16 ounces. The one we call marge weighs in at a whopping close to 2lbs. A little concerned went to the vet he just laughed he said it is like kids they grow different. She even looks different. The two have baby doll faces she has the long face with very large ears. Both mom and dad are not large. Go figure.

It's very hard to judge how big they will be. My 2 bigger babies have changed who is the biggest by one ounce. LOL My big girl is now the 2nd to the biggest. Sylvia

it's funny because his litter brother Boo weighs 3.9 lbs and Peeka is smaller than him lol

Yeah, that's kind of what I was talking about when I said the vets say their bone structure is set at about 6 months old. Sounds like Peeka is probably built a little stouter than his brother.

My last litter from this couple, I got a 3# female and a 6# male. This is one of the reasons I like to know the grandparents sizes. I know this male has surpassed his father and paternal grandparents sizes. His mother is still 12 oz heavier than him but his maternal grandparents are 5# and 8#. I know he can reach up to 8# but by watching the growth of his siblings and seeing their weights staying steady for the last few weeks, I can safely assume that he probably won't grow much more, which might make him the same weight as his mother.
