Default calling all breeders please?

i am new to breeding as you know, having just had my second litter. My plan for MY program is to breed two and skip one. From what i can gather this is the way most people do it. How do you guys breed? i know there are people that breed every heat and I feel this is way too hard on the bitches and wears them out before their time. then I know there are some people that breed a year or two then take time off? Just wondering if I am on the right track with my plan? Thanks, Delores

I like the breed two and skip one, My female goes into heat once a year so I have had a couple of breeders say that would be fine to breed her on every heat since its that far apart but I dont think I will do that. I plan on Breeding Lilli one more time then she will be spayed

Why do you find it necessary to breed at all? Did you do genetic research on your dogs, pedigree research, are you trying to improve the breed? Just for extra money? Just curious..

Not taking your bait here but yes, yes and yes. far as money, I am about six thousand "in the hole" right now so that is a joke. there used to be another person on here that always asked the new breeders like questions. i am an old woman and learned many years ago not to let people bait me or to devote much of my time responding to them.

I was not trying to "bait" you. I was simply asking questions. There are just so many people that have just bred to produce litters for "fun" and "profit" and do not care about the breed standard or any thing else for that matter. Over breeding has just been a problem in many breeds and it concerns me. It disheartening to see post on the "for sale" thread from some so called breeders with not a care for anything except trying to make a buck from breeding their numerous breeds over and over again. I'm sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention, and you're being an "old lady", makes no difference to me. I'm not a spring chicken myself either, honey and I will continue to ask questions if I want to know something.

Well, you did offend me. i do understand, however, what you are saying. Why would you jump to the conclusion that i am one of "those" breeders? believe me, I have paid my dues. I have researched until I couldn't research anymore, then kept on researching. I have invested a lot of money in my dogs to make sure I have some of the best and if I do make any 'extra money', it certainly won't be for a long time. I don't need to make money off my dogs to live. I have a very comfortable life. But I will be posting a "for sale" ad soon.

It is sad that people automatically try and assume the worst about "newbie" breeders. We all have to start somewhere and me being a new breeder myself, I was also offended by that question. I believe you will be a great breeder and are a wonderful person (from your posts) that would never exploit or use your beloved pets! You have done your research and you have the dedication to your pets that extends from your time to your love to money and so on and those are exactly the qualities dedication and love that breeds wonderful Yorkies.

Don't get me wrong because there are alot of people who do start off for the wrong reason and should not be breeding but you are not one of them.

Just my opinion...

Okay, Okay ladies! This is a good question, how often to breed. I was always told to breed and than break but I know that it's more common to breed twice and than break with Yorkies. I would say that you have to decide what is best for your bitch according to how often she heats, if C-sections are involved and how many litters your kennel can comfortably handle each year. My question is when is the best age to retire a brood bitch? My kennel is still in the red too and I want an other brood bitch!

You do NOT have to defend yourself! Your beautiful pups speak for themselves. I HATE to see our reputable, well seasoned YT members attacked for no reason.

If I can ever convince hubby to let me get a 4th dog (I doubt it but I'm still trying lolol), expect a call from MEEEE!
