| Using Puppy feces (poop)??!! I have a question concerning Lily's puppies. As many of you know, Lily passed away, so we are having to hand-raise her 5 puppies. The puppies will be 2 weeks old tomorrow and they all seemed to be growing and thriving well. A couple of days about, one of the puppies began to have diarriha and didn't want to eat hardly anything....He is not growing like the others, 2 of the other pups are nearly twice his size. I called the vet and he recommended antibiotics....he also said that the puppy needed bacteria from something like yogurt. He said that 'if' I could mix some of the other puppies feces or poop in with some warm water and feed this to the sick puppy that it would be better than the yogurt. I spoke to another breeder from this site and she said that she has never heard of that, and maybe I should ask this question in the breeder section. So........have any of you experienced breeders every heard of this before? This just sounds like such a strange and gross method, but I am no expert! Thanks in advance |

| I have never heard of this and wouldnt do it....IMHO Vanilla yogurt works well mixed with a few nutridrops....Since their only two weeks old I would recommend getting the benebac gel. I use benebac gel and nutridrops on young pups twice a day for about 3-4 days (the ones that dont seem to be gaining). What are you using to suppliment the pups? what antibiotics did your vet give you? Quote:

| I'm not a breeder and have no idea what to tell you, but I just wanted to say that I hope your little puppy gets well and starts gaining weight. Poor little guy. Are you going to keep any of the puppies? |

Thanks for the advice.....several others told me about benebac. The vet gave me amoxi drops....one drop in morning and one at night. I am using Nuturall-C.....that is the formula that the vet suggested. I was think about when I get through with this canister, switching to goats milk....several people have told me that it works wonderful! I just don't what to upset their tummies by switching very often. We are planning to keep the little girl and one of the little boys. After all the money spent for c-section and then everything that happen to Lily, we have to replenish our savings acct. somehow, and as much as I know that we are getting attached to these little babies, we are gonna have sell the other 3. They don't have papers though, so don't even now what to ask for them. We still have quite a ways to go though... they are only 2 weeks old and I was told not to sell them before 11 weeks.

| 1 cup of canned Condensed milk or Evaporated milk 4 oz plain, full-fat yoghurt 1 egg yolk 1 teaspoon of baby vitamins 1 envelope of Knox unflavoured gelatine try this receipe for feeding...since it has the knox it should help improve the stool and yogurt will help with the bacteria....might want to use vanilla yogurt for a better flavoring.

So, there is 1 girl and 4 boys and you are selling 3 boys? I just noticed you live in Alabama! What part?? I am in Huntsville. I can check around and see if I can find anyone that is looking to add a yorkie to their family and can give one of your furbabies a great home. Can you tell me a little more about them? Are they purebred yorkies or mixes? How big are the parents? Also, there was a lady on YT yesterday from Alabama that posted in the "Yorkies Wanted" section saying she wanted a yorkie but could only spend $400 on one. Maybe you could PM her and tell her about your babies. Here are the threads she started: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58025 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22070

| Goat's milk is great, but you will still have to fortify it with egg yolks, yogurt and a multivitamin. 10 oz. evaporated milk (whole fat or part skim -- do not use all skim) or goat's milk 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) -- delete if using goat's milk 1 egg yolk (raw) 2T regular mayonnaise (optional) 1 cup whole fat yogurt One thing I've always been puzzled about and why I prefer Benebac is that I believe heating will destroy any beneficial bacteria in the yogurt. I, too, don't let mine go home until at least 11 weeks. A small size (4 or 5 pounds full grown) brings more money than papers. Of course, good coats, short noses, bites, proper and sound body structure also are important, but I have found all these things to be more important to buyers than papers, especially since I have a spay/neuter policy. I have sold unpapered males for $800 and females for $900.00 that are going to be in the 4 pound range or might barely hit 5. All of them sold within a few days and dogs do not bring high prices here. An AKC dog that is going to be 7 pounds will probably only bring about $500 at the most here. So, if yours are going to be on the small side $400.00 is not near enough. You'll have more of an idea when they are about 8 weeks old and that is more than enough time to set prices and find good homes. Is the little boy starting to respond to the antibiotics at all? |

I can see where he would advise this gross remedy...normal stool would supply the beneficial bacteria and flora needed to replace what the antbx would destroy and would also kill the e-coli (bad bacteria for the stomach and intestinal tract) which would be the worry for eating stool, but ----- there is a better way to reintroduce this without giving the poor baby poop. The above recipes sound more palatable than dog stool... Some Vets can come up with off the wall stuff just knowing 2+2=4, LOL....Hope the little baby is better tonight. Thats a scare.

You may want to pm her so you can comfort each other and let her know what's been working for you. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58303 |
