| Need Breeding 101 I am new at this. I have a almost 8month old yorkie I bought from a very good breeder. Which I will probably refer to as well. My little girl is having her first cycle. My breeder told me it is good to wait 2 years to breed, which I will definately do. I want to make sure I learn alot about breeding before I breed her. I have never bred a dog much less a yorkie. I know yorkies can have c-section and complication depending on size and so forth. I would like all you breeders to educate me as much as possible about breeding before I decide breeding is something I would like to do. I want to make sure I do what is best for Ritzie and the breed itself. As far as learning where do I start? I have never had a dog that wasn't spayed. This is my first cycle, should I take her to the vet to make sure everything is acting the way it should be, is there signs I should look for? PLEASE HELP! I would like to do things right!!!!!! |

| I am looking forward to reading through your thread. I will be trying to learn all I can over the next 2 years too. My breeder is giving me a lot of encouragement and passing on her knowledge. I told her that I would maybe like them to have one litter -- she laughed and said that was how she got started too -- It is addictive. Like you, I want to go into this responsibly and I will only breed my two if that is the right choice for all. Here's hoping we both have healthy, happy dog, that will be a credit to the breed -- exactly what we need to propagate!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | First and foremost, find a mentor. Someone that may help you find a stud and whelp a litter. There are SO many aspects in breeding. You're doing right by trying to get all of the info that you can. First heats can be messy. The immature female may not be as clean as we would like. Just get her some panties...this helps a great deal. Keep ALL intact males away from her...don't want any accidents happening.

| Luckily the spotting started last Friday Oct 27th. It has been very light. Just a little spotting. I did buy the panties but haven't really needed them. She has been good about keeping herself very clean. I have only given her one bath. But she has stayed very clean. I think I could call myself lucky so far. She is my only inside dog so I don't worry about other males getting to her. I will definately speak with Paula in about a year or so when I get ready to possibly breed her. Thanks for your very good advice and info. Quote:

| breeding I am also interested in breeding my little Lily . She is in her 2nd heat now. She was a year in July, So I'm trying to learn all I can. I'm looking for the perfect little stud, here in AZ. I will probally breed her on her next cycle. Lily is my first bitch , so I,m new to dealing with the whole thing. She does a good job of keeping herself clean. I think she will be an excellent mommie

| No doubt, there are plenty of people on here and sites you can read to learn all about breeding. I just want to add and ask that you look at each of these threads so you can go into breeding with the full knowledge that you may be risking the life of your dog. These are just the recent deaths after childbirth, there are countless others on here and countless more whose stories will never be told. | That is why I haven't decided if I want to breed Ritzie. I am aware there is always risk, just not sure if I want to put my little one at risk. That is why I want to learn so much before I make a decision. Thank you for you post. That is so sad and I don't know if I could handle that. Just want to learn as much as I can, especially about Yorkies in general. Quote:

| You need to also consider if your dog is worthy of breeding. Just bc a dog is cute doesn't mean you should breed her. Make sure that she is up to standard, and also free from any genetic problems. Best of luck in your decissions.
