| Miscarried One - Still hope? Has anyone every heard of a yorkie miscarrying one puppy and sustaining the rest of the litter? I believe the pup would have been lost around day 55 of gestation. No obvious signs of contractions what so ever. Just a question posed to me so I thought I would ask those with more experience. Thanks.

| Have never experienced this, but since each puppy is in an individual sack and she is not contracting then I am sure it is possible that she could continue with the pregnancy on a normal course. A puppy could be viable at 55 days - normal gestation is 58 to 63 days. |

| Thank you. That's what I thought too, but I wanted to give her some hope. I guess there are still signs that the dog has at least one other puppy on board. We'll keep our fingers crossed. I appreciate the reply.

| pup Why not have an xray to see what is going on? Pups can be reabsorbed, and they can abort one or more and still carrier others..but an xray will eliminate guessing and you will know what to expect or not to expect. Best wishes |

| Sometimes pups are reabsorbed. Sometimes there are false pregnancies. My Mom's Yorkie just had a false pregnancy. My Mom took her in for an x-ray the last week of gestation and .... nothing. There wasn't a single pup in there. I'd highly suggest doing an x-ray. |

| I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but I know you would hate to harm the momma, so I would definitely take her to the vet, preferably one with an ultrasound. Yes, she could have other pups in there, but you need to make sure they are still alive. An xray would only confirm their presence. If there is something going on in there, she could get a horrible infection. The vet could also listen for the heartbeats if xray is your only option. But please get her to a vet. Let us know how she's doing and good luck to both of you. |
