Default Help with a first time stud male please

Ok - at first my male wanted nothing to do with my female in heat and now he's trying like crazy BUT is not achieving penitration. He's going crazy to the the he's wearing himself out.

I hold her, I hold him.,...still not working. And he gets distracted if I trying to push his rear in closer on her. She's standing perfect for him. He's shorter than her but I don't think thats too big of deal.

Breeders? Any advice? He's young, 9 months and this is his first experience.

I would never entertain the idea of using a male much less than a year old, a few weeks short of a year maybe but never 9 months. He is a baby himself at that age.

i could have written this post at Ceeby's first breeding. He is smaller than Silk was, He finally got her outside when I had them out to potty. She was standing perfectly still in a flat place in the yard and he came up behind her on a little tiny hill. I started running just in case and by the time i got there, he had her. he had tried for two or three days and had worn himself out. You might also try placing a pillow or phone book under him. It does distract them but when they get to a certain point, they don't care. My next dog that came into heat drove him crazy. he knew what it was like and I swear I got worried. he wouldn't eat and tried to do it thru the crate. I wish you had seen his actions trying to get to her. But now on his first breeding with Silk, he ran from her the first day she was ready for him. he got in his rabbit chair when she was flirting and gave her this look of leave me alone gal. it was so cute but it didn't take him long to figure it all out. He was eleven months old.

Thank you for sharing!!!!! So this is normal then??? Yorkierose suggested a rolled up rug or towel too. Well he tried again tonight...and nothing. Just can't hit the bullseye He's tiring himself out and laying down and panting.

Is it ok to leave them together (supervised) or should I seperate them. Does it make a difference?

I just let my male who is 1 years who is only 4 lbs breed my large female who is 8lbs it took him 3 days to hit the bull eye, so we will see if with puppies, he wouldn't let anyone or anything help him he had to do it own his own.

I'm running out of time...today is day 14. I guess I may just have to let nature run its course. I'm going to try again her in a little bit and see if he "hits the bullseye" too! So i'm assuming your make was quite shorter than you female and still managed...so maybe he will. My gosh though...he's struggling!

I would separate them some just to give him a break. Other wise I'm not help. Titan was 10 months and tied Roxi (almost twice his size) a couple of times with out a lot of trying. We saw him go up to her, hop on and then a couple of seconds later they were stuck.

I think he is too young. My Gizmo could tie, but his swimmers weren't swimming until he was a year old. I think you might have to wait until next cycle.

Your problably right, which is fine too I can wait...there is no hurry. Funny thing...last night my neurtered male gave it a try! I was cracking up! Then a little ashamed of my little Meiah for being a little fluesy for offering it to just anyone! LOL!!!

Anyways.....this is my first stud...I've taken my girls to another breeder. So I'm learning right along with him. He will get it though...RIGHT?

How long has she did in season? If It's his first time it will take a little longer for him to learn to find the right spot. Both of my studs did this and the one I usally use goes right to it. but 7 months is a little young I think, but the vet said from 7 months on. My little guy got tie with the female 3 times.

Her first spotting was on 10/03/06. She's still standing for him today. My male is 9 months old. He's getting so frustrated too! He's starting to bite her neck and she's not likeing that!!!!

He is too young. One of them will get hurt if you continue like this.
Next heat if you persist in breeding them, he will be older. Some never do figure it out.
This is where a mentor who is local would come in for help.
