| Need some advice for a friend A very close friend of mine is supposed to be getting a yorkie female from a woman who has now bred her yorkie for the very first time. there was only one girl in the litter and I guess it is the runt. Is there anything that she should worry about with the runt or are they normally just as healthy as the rest of the pups?? The other concern that I have and need some opinions on is that the woman that she is getting this pup from went from asking $750 for the pup up to $850. My friend doesn't have a problem with paying the extra moeny but I think that it is kinda rude that she would jack up the price once the pup is a week old. The main concern that I have though is that this woman will not send my friend pics of the pups. She is willing to send pics of the dad only. No idea why she wont send pics of mom or pups though. Does this make any sense to anyone?? This woman told my friend that the mom is 4 lbs and the dad is 5 lbs but said that the vet told her that there is a male pup in the litter that should be around the 10 lb range yet her female pup should not be any bigger than the dad at 5 lbs. Make sense?? Let me know what ya'll think cause my friend asked me to post this to get opinions. She is worried that she is either going to get a sick pup or end up with a mutt when she paid for a pure bred. I appreciate the opinions. Kelly |

| Tell your friend "RUN! Don't walk!" That doesn't sound like a person who is interestedin the health of the puppies at all. Also sounds like she doesn't know what she is doing.

| My thoughts exactly!! With the "sketchy" information that she has given your friend my "gut" feeling is that she could be in for heartbreak! If I were her I would keep looking!

| This is my thought too but Crystal (my friend) really wants a yorkie girl just like I do. The deal was with us that if there were 2 girls we would each get one. We are the best of friends and work together so we are very close and thought that this would be something nice to do since the price seemed right. I dont want Crystal to get her heart broken by this lady. She has wanted a yorkie for a long time just like I have and has done all the research I have also. Thanks for the opinions. Keep them coming. Kelly |

| If there are puppys, then a breeder should have no problem sending pictures of them!!! I would never buy a puppy without seeing it / or a picture of it first!!!! I am thinking there arent any puppys and it sounds like a total scam. Or, if she insists, she should insist on using a puppy escrow service. I found a puppy on puppyfind and had heard around the internet this person was a horrible person and a scam artist. I asked him to use the puppy escrow (I would have never bought a dog from him anyway) to see what he would say and sure enough he said no way, he has had nothing but problems with services like that. Yeah, right!! Also, if the puppies are akc registered, check the akc suspension list and see if breeder is on it. Last edited by mojo; 04-29-2005 at 05:40 PM. Reason: had another thought |

| pup Why can't your friend visit the breeder and see the parents in person? When the pups are 8 weeks, get a baby scale and weigh them..don't trust the breeder to tell you the weight. Triple the 8 week weight and double 12 week. If a breeder refuses to show puppies or dam, there is a reason..ask why? I can not think of any good reason..if she is afraid of germs..surely she has a window or glass door she can let you look through..give me a break! |

| Recon's mama, I will tell your friend to keep looking for another breeder. This lady seems to only care about money and not well being of the pups. Also if she wouldnt show your friend pics of the mom and pups, it seems very fraudelent. Good luck. |

| This lady lives like 7 hours from us. The only reason that Crystal was going to go through her was cause the cousin of the lady and her went to grooming school together so she thought that she would be trustworthy. But i am kinda thinking that this woman thought that Crystal would be an easy target to take advantage of since the cousin of the lady with the puppies knows how badly Crystal wants a yorkie. |

| Yeah, this sounds very sketchy to me. I know it's hard when someone wants a Yorkie SO badly, but it's always best to wait until you feel 100% comfortable with where the baby comes from. I would suggest that she keeps looking.

| I think I would look elsewhere. Why not show all pictures? Sounds like there is an unspoken dishonesty to me. The actions speak louder then words. I know it is so hard to wait. I raised a runt recently to 10 weeks and she didnt make it. This doesnt mean the turn out will always be so sad. Find a breeder who you dont doubt. Who doesnt hesitate to answer your questions. If you are feeling uncomfortable from the start before money has even exchanged hands, then after the fact will probably be worse. I think the advice you have received is sound. A breeder should feel kinda like an honest friend. |

| That is kinda my thought to. I have found a yorkie female that i am planning to get from a member here. The member has been very open and honest about everything reguarding the puppy. I feel like I could ask her anything and she would answer. Within the first 3 emails with this person she had already sent me pics. I feel very comfortable with her and have no complaints. I think I may have found some one else to get a pup for Crystal from. He is a member here. He has been very helpful and open with me. I am hoping that she choses this person over the one that she is currently talking to cause I think she is opening herself up for a heartbreak. Thank you all soooooo much for your opinions and advice. I really appreciate it and cant say thank you enough. In the short time that I have been a member here I have really grown very fond of this board. You all seem like a really great group and I plan to stick around for a very long time. Thanks again all at making me feel welcome- Kelly |
