Tails docked question How long does it take after the puppies tails are docked do they stop crying? It seems like when they are eating they are fine but when they try to go to sleep they cry. Is it normal? Is there something I can give them for the pain? My husband thinks I am crazy. It seems that all I do is worry about these puppies. Omg I dont know how I will ever give them up They are only a few days old and I am already thinking of that!

| How long ago did you have the tails docked? Did your vet give you any instructions? I've never had any problems with docked tails. If it has been a while since the tails were docked I'd call the vet for advise.

My puppy never made a sound when we did dew claws and docked her tail at four days old. BTW, how is your little one?

Mine usually only wimper when it's done. Never cry afterwards. Don't give them anything for pain. They can't handle anything like that. Mom's licking will (should) soothe them. Do your's have stitches by any chance? We don't do that method, so I was just asking out of curiosity. Our first litter many yrs ago had stitches and I do remember they were a bit more uncomfortable for couple days.

I just had my litter done on 8/22 and they did put in one stitch each. However, they didn't cry after we left the vet's office. Are you sure your pups are warm enough? This can make them cry too. You might try the heating blanket on low under the bedding. It may not be the tail docking at all. Best of luck to you. I'd keep all mine too if I could!

Mine have never even uttered a whimper from the tail docking after leaving the vet's office. I, too, would look for a different cause. A puppy that is not warm enough or hungry will cry.

Forgot to ask how old they are. I had my litter done at 3 days. Plus, I didn't think about the hunger thing before. Is your mom producing enough milk? Do their little tummies look full?
