I just learned about the Lepto shot here at YT and as far as know then , my other dogs have recieved it. She said that its the only shot they order. What should I do???? |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I'm cancelling my appointment. My groomer, who also breeds, offered to do my shots tomorrow. Thank god! I like my vet but he has crappy staff. My groomer suggested I write him a letter because of the way the girl treated me on the phone. Well I guess I will have to learn to do my own shots because I will not get the lepto. Vets are so frustrating, I just wish I could find one that I totally love. |

| Vet exams are very important but shots are easy to do yourself! Your groomer friend I am sure would be happy to show you how and there are many great places to order vaccines from and they are definitely available without the lepto. Revival is a great one although I know there are more. |

| We normally let the vet give our first round then give the rest ourselves by ordering a tray. If you have a Tractor Supply store or a feed mill near you, they sell individual vaccines. "Most" feed mills will have the vaccine WITH the lepto which is fine for those with larger breeds but our tractor supply here now offers one without the lepto. Growing up with horses I've been in alot of feed mills and have only ran across one in the past that sold them without the lepto. If anyone goes to tractor supply to purchase them, word of advice, take your own small cooler and ice pack. They are very bad to NOT have the cool paks on hand. (And if I'm correct, Revival and maybe Foster's and Smith also sells individual vaccines. Please check their catalogs because I never order individual one's but am almost positive I saw that they sell them that way) Last edited by ButterflyYorkie; 09-06-2006 at 03:27 AM. |

| We have lepto in our area so the shot is really a necessity. None of my four had a reaction to it. Make sure it's not in your area before you decide. I wouldn't want to take the chance. BUT, if it was not in my area, I wouldn't get it.

My furkids Donating Member | My vet doesn't give or recommend the Lepto...As far as I know this something that is added to the vaccine...I have the breeder give Lillie her shots and Lepto is not in it...I would ask my vet about this or maybe....a new vet?

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Its all so confusing!!! What are the reactions the little one are getting from the lepto vaccines? I guess my vet told my groomer that if they have a reaction then all they need it a shot of benydryl. WEll who wants to run back up if there is a reaction??????!!!!! So the Lepto shot is really bad for Yorkies??? |

| maybe im not getting it but if lepto is a bacteria then why would the vets use vaccines with lepto in it??? is it so the dog can get immune to it?? |

I didn't want to do it either but my vet said in 16 years he had never seen a reaction to the lepto shot but he had seen many dogs die from leptospirosis. So I let him give her the shot & we did not have any problems, but I'm thinking I heard someone say, it doesn't usually come with the first exposure to the vaccine but the second. I don't know if that is true or not. | |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | My groomer ended up letting me come to her house and she did it for me. No lepto. So now I know how to do it myself and what to order, so I'm not going to use my vet for my puppy shots. I was very thankful to her! She wasn't going to charge me either! But she's been so helpful with me with my whole whelping process I made her take payment for it! |
