| Paying for a stud fee vs. Pick of Litter I thought this forum was to promote quality AKC standard Breeding. When you show a dog, isn't it to judge breeding stock. What is wrong with wanting to pay for a breeding vs. having someone else take the best of the litter? Maybe I want to keep the best of the litter. Boy, that last reply thread was an attack on me. You don't know me. I have only one very spoiled and loved dog, Sassy. I would like to breed her to the breed standard and feel that she is a nice Yorkie specimen when compared to a lot of "reputable breeder" dogs with their long noses and long legs. |

Some just charge a fee..just check around your area for breeders. You might try the Vets offices and see if they have a list of breeders. Find a proven stud for your female. And make sure both dog are Healthy and tested for STD. Good luck on finding a stud..

I am not sure what thread you are talking about, I must have missed it, but I see nothing wrong with paying a fee rather than pick of the litter. Pick of the litter is the price of a yorkie, and I think that is a very high price to pay for a stud fee. But I'd rather pay the price of a yorkie than to give up my best pup which I might want to put into my own breeding program. The owner of the stud can charge whatever they see fit, but I personally would not use one who charged POL

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Absolutely nothing wrong with paying a fee for stud service. You need to find someone that owns a stud that you like. It can sometimes take MONTHS to YEARS to find a line of dogs that you are happy with. A line that has been well established. You need to build a relationship with that stud's owner. It's hard to build that kind of relationship in less than a week's time. If you knew you were going to breed your girl, you should have started looking for a stud a long time ago. Not post a new thread that you need a stud by next week and if someone wants to make money. Whatever...best of luck to you!

| Thank you I would like to thank all that responded to this thread and say good-bye. I have seen many postings regarding "items wanted" but have been advised by admin that I can not make the request for a stud unless I'm a donating member. I did not realize that my request was breaking some kind of rule on this site. Really, money is not the issue. I'm a government official and am used to dealing with people in difficult situations. I apologize for stepping on anyone's toes. This site is too touchy for my taste. I have read many threads and there seems to be too many people ready to criticize someone, especially a newbie. I had researched a stud long before this, a year ago, but things change and the stud I had chosen is no longer available. Studs are not that hard to find but quality is. Thanks again, Cindy |

| Hey all...I believe a stud fee is a little more fair for the dam's owner than the stud's owner...However, for the stud's owner maybe they want another yorkie in the family?...But if they just wanted pick of the litter to just sell the pup, then I wouldn't agree to it...I don't think a stud fee should cost equal to what a pup would, but it all varies. And that's up to the stud owner and dam owner to discuss. I think a Stud fee is suitable and beneficial for both. Thanks!

| Yes I agree...It's all about an agreement that both sides think are fair...

| I am curious... what if they do POL and only one puppy makes it? I have always wondered what most people would do. |

| Pol I think the price of stud service has alot to do with it being one pup or two that constitutes a litter...I say one pup is a litter, but I did not charge alot for stud service, so people were more then happy to pay the fee if there was one pup and it was a POL agreement...and many people changed their mind when it came to letting the POL go..fine with me and they could pay instead. Truthfully, I do not like POL for stud service...people get so attached to their puppies..I feel bad taking one. |
