flea med during prenancy hi...quick ?...is it okay to put flea medication on or use the collar if the dog is pregnant? :animal-pa |
Flea collars not not good even when your dog is not pregnant, they are very toxic to humans and animals. And the flea drops are not labeled for preg. dogs. Do you have a flea problem now? |
I don't know about the flea medicine but I definately would not put a flea collar on her. Your dog would inhale the harmful fumes from a flea collar, they are bad news even for a dog that is not pregnaunt. |

Frontline Plus is indicated for use during preg. according to pamphlet and Vet. Sherry, oooh, this worries me now, we have used this on Dori only because of the above. :confused: I know alot of the treatments are toxic, but I thought this one was safe??? We have horrible flea problems here in Texas and couldn't spray the yard due to inability to find a product for the yard that was safe for the babies, so we just treated them instead. Please respond.... |

i just got back from the vet just an hour ago to find out my muffie is due to have her puppies at the end of aug.....omg how exciting!!!!! anyway, she told me to use flea medicine on her...it is ok. you dont want your mommy to get tape worms and pass it down to the puppies. tape worms will stay n the uterus and when she delivers the puppies, it will be passed on to the puppies. then the mommy will lick the puppies to clean them and then will be passed on to her and then it could be passed on to the family. so yes...it is ok |

:animal-pa wow im so confused so many different answers...i find it wierd that every vet has differently believes on the matter...since some recommened use of products and others dont i figured the safest thing to do is to call the vet and see what to do...since the doc was in surgery she told me to call back at 4...but strongly spoke against any meds...she said as far as she knows the vet is against using medication during pregnancy...but i do NOT wantt her to suffer with fleas and whatever they are carrying so im just going to call back to ensure the health of my baby and her babies...thank you all for the great posts :animal-pa |
Has anyone heard of Capstar blue daily flea pills? When my dog was pg that is what my vet recommended. Kind of pricey but it worked. Something like $2.50 a pill. |

My vet said that Frontline was the only one recommended during pregnancy. It is important that the mother does not have fleas when she gives birth. You DO NOT want your dog to pass fleas to the puppies for many reasons. Please follow whatever your vet says and good luck |
well i called back and Fendi's vet wasnt in but another one was so i spoke to her...the vet told me not to use anything and to just brush her with a flea brush which i am guessing is the regular brush...i will go in tomorrow to see Fendi's vet who is the only vet i trust..Fendi just last year got soap in her eyes at the groomers and was left in for a # of days and i realized her eye color was turning so she needed immediate surgery to save her eye and he did a great job...but il let you know what he says tomorrow...another question i have is why do you think that each vet thinks so differently on the matter of flea meds during pregnancy? :animal-pa |
