both of my girls appetitess go down when they are close to whelping also the heat can make them uncomfortable and like us appetites go down , if you are very worried though always consult with your vet, how far into her pregnancy because a couple of days before Dee Dee had her babies she did not eat a thing then hey presto 5 babies arrived safe and well and after that her appetite has gone way up , good luck with the birth keep us posted we love to see new babies!

Find a high quality puppy food she likes, add boiled white chicken breast, rice, boiled egg, tsp. of cottage cheese. Skip the bacon and ice cream. Bacon is just pure fat and can cause pancreatitis and ice cream has too much lactose in it and both will just upset her stomach. Feed small meals like 4 times a day.

Unless you have new dates, I am thinking she is closer to 30 than 40 days, but you should see some weight gain at Day 40 and they grow very fast from there.

i tried adding chicken to her food but she will pick around everything and only eat the chicken..im going to try the cottage cheese tonight but i can bet my life on it that she will eat around the food...i hope it works i did give chicken before...well about 7 weeks ago she was with the male and not until a week to a week in a half after they got stuckso i figure she should be about 5 weeks or 4 weeks im going crazy trying to figure this out but the vet told me to go in on the 6th of august to get an xray...is this too soon or too late??

Better that she eats only chicken than nothing at all. Nutristat (available at a pet store for about $7.00 for a tube) seems to boost their appetite and should be given when they are not eating correctly.

It is dangerous to do an X-ray before Day 50 so I would be sure of my dates. An ultrasound is safer if you are unsure of the dates. Fertilization USUALLY occurs about 10 to 14 days after the first sign of the female bleeding. You should already be able to feel the pups moving very well by Day 50.

Do you remember when she started bleeding? The exact date or within a day or two at least?

That would have been 6 1/2 weeks ago, and this is the day our female (Dori) began her cycle, she is 5 weeks along and is due to whelp the week of August 21st. We haven't taken her to the Vet yet, but have spoke with her (Vet) several times before and after she bred. We will take her in about 10 days before she is due and then on August 21 st.

i just wrote this on another post but i just got back from the vet to find my muffie is due to have puppies at the end of aug. muffie has actually lost some weight from her last visit. the vet advised me of the puppy food and use a name brand. she stated at this time, it is very important she eats and gains some weight. she advised the puppy food with chicken/rice (soupy) in the food so that she will eat the puppy food. the puppy food has alot of vitamins in it which your mommy will need for the delivery/health of puppies/and nursing. so make sure she eats the puppy food not just the chicken and rice.
