Animal Smiley 019 Average Price for a Yorkie Puppy

I am new to the group. I am hoping to get a Yorkie puppy in the next year or so. I have been looking for over one year and researching the breed. How much is the average price for a pet quality yorkie? Sex does not matter to me. I only ask because the prices seem to vary so much. I have seen them listed for anywhere from $500 to $2000. When I have called to inquire, some of the the breeders have stated they charge the same for show and pet quality. Needless to say I will not call these breeders again. I am leary of $500 and knocked over by $2000 for a pet quality puppy. I can understand $2000 for a show quality puppy but not for a pet quality one. I am more concerned that the puppy is happy and healthy than what they look like. I do not plan to breed. Can some one help me? Also, does anyone know of a really good breeder in New Jersey. I live in Hunterdon County.

Thanks so much. I love these site and find it very informative.

I think the average price should be $1,300 or $1000 to get a good pet quality. What size do you want? breeders charge more for the smaller ones although they really shouldn't. I think a 4-5 pound yorkie is a good size its small but not extremley small like the 2-3 pounders that come with health problems. Although, the tinies 2-3 pounds are extremly cute and lovable they have teeth problems from over crowding and other health problems and cost anwhere from $1800-$3000, which I think is ridiculous. I know of a breeder that will work with you and get what you want and try to stay in your price range at the same time her web-site is www.irresistibletinytreasures.com and another one is honeysuckle-ridge@hotmail.com, his name is Robert. He is pretty reasonable with his prices and is very nice. I bought Nemo from him I will attatch a picture of him.

Good luck and happy yorkie hunting!!!

Oh, yes I know about all the problems with tinies, because I have the two and I love them dearly but maybe they could of been a little bigger maybe about 4 pounds. It's okay though they are sooo cute!!!

Where did you find him? Thats a good deal. I have been all over the internet and no luck with a price like that. I cheapest I have paid is $800.

P.S.
No hard feeling about the other threaded discussion

A judge with the A.K.C said a good quality pet yorkie should only cost $400-$500, but she said breeders raise the price and people buy, so breeders keep rising the price.

you are recommending breeders that are producing multiple breeds including "designer" pups and accept major credit cards?
Irresistible has shih-tese, yorkiepoo,shorkie,maltese,and yorkies...priced up to $2,500.
Honeysuckle has yorkies, mini doxies, poms, mini schnauzer, toy poodles and chi's
???????????????????

Candy I would disagree with the website youre recommending, she is raising several different designer breeds and very tiny yorkies. Read her adults page her studs are reported to be 1.5lbs-3.5lbs.

In my area (Texas), the norm seems to be $900-$1200.

Here are a couple of things that I have learned in my research before buying Georgie and on YT. I am not a big fan of the breeders that breed multiple breeds. I think Yorkies need special attention and I trust someone who breeds only Yorkies to be the most knowledgeable (and when I say breed I mean both parents live on site and they are not a puppy mill) JMO. Also any breeder that uses the word designer pups is not very reputable in my opinion, last time I checked Georgie is not designer only his carrier is. He is my furbaby and companion, and I appreciate a breeder that understands that. I paid $950 for Georgie from a breeder in North Carolina, and he weights 3 1/2lbs. and is very healthy. I would recommend that you post on here what you are looking for and have people respond to it with names of reputable breeders. Call and ask a lot of questions until you find the breeder that you are comfortable with and has taken the time to answer your questions. I wish you the best of luck in your search and please don't fall for the so called breeders that advertise teacups and designer dogs at $2000. Sorry to sound harsh but people that breed for the money don't make me very happy.

First of alll....

Welcome to YT!

It is truly an awesome place!

I believe that the cost of a yorkie depends upon a couple of things:

1) the amount of $$ a buyer is willing to spend for a pup

2) the amount of $$ a seller is requiring for the pup

Unfortunately the quality and health of the puppy is not always part of the those two things. That is why it is critical that when you get serious about purchasing a puppy, please do business with a reputable breeder.

Welcome to YT and good luck on finding a pup! I think average would be around $1000, with variations depending on your area
