| How often to breed I have a quick question I was hoping some of you breeders could help me out with. I'm talking to a breeder in North Kansas City who has a litter due the first week of May. I really like her, I only have one concern. This dam just had a litter in October. Is that too soon? I know it depends on the dog, I was just wondering what your opinions were. |

| breeding It does depend on the bitch..some go much longer between heats then 6 months...a bitch who comes into heat every six months will be ready to rebred 4 months after the litter is whelped. You count from heat to heat, not from the time they had the litter...so that means your bitch may have had a litter and in 4 months she is being rebred. Mine go longer between heats..8 to 12 months..so they have had a full 6 plus months rest. I do not breed twice in a row after a section or a large litter from a smaller girl. The AKC needs to follow the lead of the Canadian KC...CanKC will tell you how many times a bitch has been bred, number of pups..that is good when buying a bitch for breeding. | I agree with what my mentor does, breeds once a year. If a bitch goes in to heat every 6 months, the the pup will be bred and then have her next heat off. If the bitch goes into heat once a year, then she's bred every heat. |

| It is very harmful to breed a yorkie every heat!!!! Infact no dog should be used up like that. A bitch should be spayed at 5-6 years old too. Going against these rules is BAD breeding practices and the mothers health as well as the puppies health are comparmised. Please let any one who is breeding like this know that it is wrong. Most likely they are breeding just for the $$$$ and dont care either way. Feel free to report these people to your local ASPCA and they will check out the living conditions there. Yorkies are highly sought after by puppymills and like breeders because of their high price tag. Help give tortured yorkies a voice. |

| You said she has a litter due in MAY. is that a typo? the pregnant period is only 58-633 days so she can't be pregnant now. as far as the other questions, you have already recieved some good answers. |

That's what I was wondering for Tiffanie's 1st litter was born last May 4th and she got with puppies in Feb 06'....And I thought wait a sec here. Tiffanie goes into heat twice a year. Aug 05' was her 1st heat (Didn't mate her then) and Feb 06' was her 2nd heat (Did mate her with Teddy and I didn't think she was with Puppies and to my suprise she was and had 4 beautiful, healthy babies!), her 3rd heat was Sept 06' but I think she might of been off due to having her 1st litter of Puppies this past May. (We didn't mate her either, only once a year for her!) This year I'm not sure when or if she'll go into heat in Feb or not. Well just have to see. Hugs, Lee & Babies | |
