| We are having our first litter... I have read so much here and in books over the last couple of years, and now it is time for us to have our first litter! We went through alot with the sick Yorkie from Dixie Pups, and then I thought that Princess was going to deliver at the same time as me after an accidental mating when I was 8 months pregnant, (it turned out to be a false pregnancy), and now it is time. We took her to the Dr. today on day 56 and the Dr. thinks she may have 5 pups in there, and one is in the birth canal. She weighed just over 6 lbs before pg and now weighs close to 11 lbs. She has gotten so big! The male is just over 4 lbs, so the puppies shouldn't be too big for her. I am reading up on everything and getting my supplies ready. If there is any advice from all of you experienced breeders, I would love to have it. I have read as much as I can, and I think I am ready. We have an E.R. Vet on call, and taking temps. daily. Thank you all for the advice you have given others, that has taught me so much and for being there for me when my little 1 lb Yorkie passed away of Giardia despite all of my efforts to bottle feed, baby food feed, and everything else you all advised me to do. I hope you will be here for me like you have for so many others. I hope that some day I will be able to help others like you have all helped me! Thank you, Audrey |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Congratulations! You need to keep her in a crate or something to limit her movement. If you already have one pup in the birth canal then she should start whelping soon and right now, you're suppose to still have a week to go. Good luck with her and keep us updated.

We asked the Dr. and he wasn't concerned about the amount of weight, and she seems to be holding it fine. She just looks alot bigger, not really fat. Her nipples are very big also so I am not sure if some of it is milk. Also with possibly 5 puppies I guess maybe that is why she gained so much. To me that sounds like a larger than average litter for a first timer, and for her size. | |

| Here's some graphic pics of a maltese delivering. If you have never witnessed a delivery I think it helps to know what to expect. http://www.homestead.com/malteseluv/Whelping1.html |
