| ASAP Help needed! Puppy formula... Ok you guys... I have not fed puppies in years!!! And for the life of me I cant remember the brand I used??? I know I've used goats milk, but I used fresh, not the store bought.... Thats my first choice!!! I know KMR was icky, and I did not like it... but I also know that there are not very many brands out there.... I am now mommy to 5 little girls.... I feel like I have seen this movie before.... Linda... Feel free to jump in at any time!!! I could use any advice you've got! lol Cookie has a bit of an infection, she has managed to hide it quite well.... Pups are 18 days old today! And she is just now showing symptoms! She pulled away from pups, loss of appetite, she is getting lax on her hygiene... so I noticed the discharge! She had been so clean!!!! You never would have known!! I took her in today.... Emergency clinic wanted 1785.00 for a spay! I almost choked reading the estimate! Needless to say we did not have her spayed today.... She is stable enough to wait... I took her in at the first sign, I did not wait until it was really serious... Which will be in a few days... So Without the pups, and with plenty of intense care, she will be ok until Tues. I hope... You never know... Yikes... But Now I have these five to worry about! I am headed out to pick up supplies for the 5 girls... And I am really unsure of what formula to feed... And advice would be helpful!!! Thanks guys!

| Where's a goat when you need one???? Anybody??? I was hoping for a single response before I left! What a day this is turning out to be.... On the up side.... One inch ribbon of nutrical and two dozen laps of water later, cookie has really perked up!!! But the discharge is still not good! That Emergency vet would not Rx her antibiotics... because she was so appalled that I did not do the surgery on the spot! ugh... With a high white count... she really should have started her on on something in the mean time.... criminal I think... ok... I'll check in later....

| You can get canned Esbilac at most pet supply stores which will work in a pinch.. and here's a good site for supplement recipes http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/bre...lefeeding2.htm it is criminal for them not to have given an antibiotic immediately...

| Is the vet saying pyrometra? I hope Cookie is going to be okay until Tuesday. I doubt antibiotics would have done a whole lot for her, but maybe they would have kept it from getting worse. You're lucky her cervix is still open so the bacteria and toxins have a way of coming out. I'll be praying she makes it until Tuesday. |

| Belive it or not... She is doing great!!! 100% of her energy back, Eating and drinking normal.... And now wants her pups back! But still has discharge.... I have not given them back to her, vet recomended that with the high white count she not nurse at all... So I am going to keep her away from them... But I am worried that it is stressing her out!! I picked up a can of puppy formula, Esbilac, I figured it would do the trick until I figured out something better.... Any ideas on calming down a very upset momma?? She is not happy about being away from her pups now.... She went from wanting absolutely nothing to do with them, to whaling and crying to get at them.... I feel like a jail keeper! I should stand my ground and keep her away from them right?? This vet was very hot on the idea of spaying her on the spot and when I refused the 1785.00 and asked for the bill... She back tracked and said that she could wait to be spayed.... She also went on and on about how seriously dehydrated she was yet had me there for 4 hours and never gave fluids... Oral, SubQ, or IV. ???? Her skin snaps back into place quickly and her gums are pink, not at all white or pasty.... She was not as bad off as this vet was making it out to be... which really raised a red flag with me... I'm not daft. The main concern was the drop in appetite, loss of interest in her pups, the discharge, and the fatigue. Yes she is ill, and I am in no way claiming that it is not to be taken seriously! But she was not on deaths door at that moment and needing to be rushed into emergency surgery as she was claiming... I guess she really thought she had a live one! (I'm sure someone is going to yell at me for that one!!) But seriously... I have never walked out of a vets office before.... It just did not feel right at all.... Anyway... Momma is doing amazing! aside from the discharge, which I know is not good... She is doing amazing!!! But the whaling!! She is not happy! Any ideas calming her down???

| If you know that she has a high white blood count, then it would seem that her milk would be full of bacteria - so no matter how tempting I wouldn't put them back with Mom. Did the vet even mention putting the pups on antibiotics since they had been nursing? I hate weekends, especially long holiday weekends - it sounds like your vet trip was a wasted effort. You still don't have the answers you need. What about putting the Mom in a baby one piece t-shirt that snaps at the bottom to prevent them from nursing? That way Mom could still clean them and such. Never have tried it, but it's the only thing I can think of that might calm her down. I have one female in heat now in diapers and an unneutered male in a belly band. If I separate them they both go crazy, but seem happy together even if they can't do what they want to do! |

| No she said no more nursing for the pups.... they could become sick.... But she did not get into the "why" or "How" And she was very impressed with how Healthy they looked even for having gone 18 hours without nursing. They looked fine... A little fussy, a little restless.. but they looked bright eyed and plump! I will have to see what I can do about wraping her belly so she can tend... to pups without being nursed on.... what a great idea!!!! Why didn't I think of it???? Duh??? Thanks again!! I guess being up all night last night with her and running on zero sleep is taking its toll! lol Thanks again!

| No ace bandage, but a pair of hubby's dress socks did the trick!!! She is happy as can be now!!! And since I fed the pups, they are not clawing at her... they are just happy to have the warm body!! They are all sleeping soundly now! Thanks again!! You have been soooo much help!!! I guess everyone is away for the holiday weekend! I'm glad you stayed home!!

| Cookie is doing amazing this morning! But I am not counting my chickens just yet folks.... I am keeping a close eye on her! She's in my lap right now kissing me as I type... all tail wagging and pawing at my face... very puppy like... She slept with the pups last night and everyone was very happy and clean when I got up! She is going to be alot of help! If I can keep them from nursing (so far so good!) I think her and I will have a good time raising these pups together! lol She was going to be spayed after this litter anyway..... but I am so very sorry it has to be during.... For her and the pups.... but she is such a good momma... I don't think she will let it slow her down one bit! Vet wrap... that colorful stuff.... They sell it at PetSmart I'm going to pick some up today.... her last two nips keep popping out of her sock! lol And I HAVE to know 100% that she is covered... Or I can't have her in with them and she wants to be with them so badly! That vet wrap is good stuff! I use it to wrap my parrots nubs... He has no feet... And from tome to time he wears his nubs raw... so I have to wrap them in little "vet wrap shoes" lol... it hinders his agility a bit, but gives his skin time to heal... he is so rough on it! Anyway.... Thanks so much for the support You guys are the best!
