| HELP! I just got my dog fixed... And he is MISERABLE with the cone on his head. He will not move, just stands there. He is a Sheltie, but I had him fixed because I have 2 Yorkies, (male and female) not fixed, and I didn't want to take any chances. They want me to keep the cone on him all week until the stitches are removed next Friday. Is there anything else I can do? Can I put a diaper, or shorts on him, so that he is more comfortable? Any ideas? |

| I didn't use anything on Daisy either. She was fine. She didn't bother them one bit. Poor little guy! |

You can try a diaper. I know that Daisy would not have left that alone. Do you think that he'll stop licking them? Daisy licked them a few times at first and I just kept telling her no and she finally stopped. | |

| Lola has an e collar. It is differnent than the cone. She hates it too. However she has had to wear it for a few occasions. She got spayed last week (Friday.) She is suppose to wear it until next Friday. I don't know if we can last that long. We are just trying to follow dr's orders even if we don't like them.

| Topher was miserable with the cone on as well, so I took it off. Surprisingly he didn't bother his stitches much at all. From time to time he'd try to give them a lick, but as he's with me all the time, I was able to distract him with something else. He healed up fine. I'd take the cone off...give it a try for a while to see if he bothers the stitches much. I can't imagine trying to get comfy with that huge thing around my neck! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I uses a preemie onesie for Cali because she was licking the stitches. I don't know how big they come but that might work.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | you can take the cone off when you can monitor him and make sure he's not licking the incision. if you notice him going at it alot then make sure he gets the cone back on when you can watch him. you don't want him licking it alot because it can get infected or he can pull out some of the stitches and it won't heal properly. take it off and see what happens |

| You can use Fur Saver or bitter apple type stuff around the incision. Just dab it on with a cotton applicator and watch him to make sure it is working. I have used it on my females and it worked well. |

| Thank you for all your advice! I was just using a diaper on him, but today he managed to chew it off. So when I left tonight for a movie, I didn't have anything on him (because he was OK without it when I was home) and then I started panicing, and came back home to put the cone back on him while I was out. Now that I am home, I put a diaper back on him. A couple of times I noticed him licking th incision area the first day and I don't want anything to happen especially when I am not home. Thank you all again! I may try that onsie idea, because with my kids, I have plenty of those around. Audrey |

| Audry, you might try using a "onsie" if you can find one that will fit a sheltie.... maybe something like a summer toddler sleeper.... cut the arms and legs to make it "short sleeved" good luck! |

| Aloe vera is good. It has a bitter taste and usually keeps them from licking, but it's not harmful to be consumed. Whatever you do make sure he can't lick the incision because he will get a bacterial infection and just prolong recovery. |
