Heat to heat............ Have any of you heard of a female coming back in heat after only 3 1/2 months? Lacijo was in heat in January and I bred her to Mr. Big. She went full term from the first breeding, 63 days. Laci had one little girl breech, she got stuck so we lost her at birth. The next one was also a little girl, born in the right position and smaller. This one Laci tried to move while we were gone and she injured the babys leg. It went septic and we lost her too. Autumn Rose is pregnant and "beating up" on Laci and when I checked Laci today she looks swollen. I had not thot about her possibly coming in heat until today so I hadn't been checking her. I need to know if she could still be swollen from being pregnant, it has been over a month since the baby died. Or if there is a possiblity of her coming in heat early. Sylvia |
Im not sure if that would be a split heat. if she had gotten preg three months ago. heres what happened to my little girl. I have always had trouble knowing when to breed my female Yorkie. I have never had this problem with any other female. My Little Minnie went in heat three months ago Her and My little boy Mickey tied three times. Nothing happened .three months later shes in heat again. Someone told me it sounded like a split heat. I took her to the vet and he said yes she is in heat and said that what she has been doing is having split heats. Well now I know Im not crazy. lol well a little but not real crazy and Its nice to know what has been going on with her heats. He did some test and said if we wanted puppies to go ahead and let them the next two days. an dso they now have tied again 3 times. YorkieGold found this info. on split heat, So i thought Id post it here. Other disturbances in the heat cycle can occur, said Dr. Casal. These include prolonged proestrus, prolonged estrus and split estrus. Bitches in prolonged proestrus often must be "pushed into ovulating" using hormone therapy. Prolonged estrus phases--which last more than 12 days--are sometimes anovulatory. Hormone therapy to treat prolonged estrus may result in marked side effects. Split estrus is characterized by a normal proestrus and the beginning of an apparently normal estrus in which the female initially allows mounting, then refuses, and then allows it again. Vaginal cytology often reveals that the bitch was not in true estrus until the second standing heat. These cycle anomalies cause difficulty in timing breeding. http://www.vet.upenn.edu/schoolreso...-symposium.html |
Thank you for that information. It is very interesting but I'm not sure that it applies since Lacijo did get pregnant and did have babies. This info is news to me but you never stop learning. The males I have are not showing the proper interest if she is coming back in heat. At least not yet. They are more playful with her than they usually are but not showing an interest in the right area of her anatomy. I think I am going to call my vet tomorrow and see if he has heard of a split heat. If he has I may take her in to have her checked out. Again, thank you. |
