| what is going on here? I need breeder help. silk has been 'trying' to come into heat for a month. I have never seen her lick herself. She swells a tiny bit one day and next day it's gone. She pees everywhere the other dogs do. Vulva looks like a tinsey wee bit of blood one day, next day it's gone. Ceeby sniffs, she snaps and growls. last night I didn't see him even sniff and she was after him wagging her little tail and prancing. Trying to play but she never plays with Ceeby. Just now, I was sitting in the floor with them and Ceeby sniffed a long time and by george, she raised that little tail and laid it to the side and Ceeby walked off. What the heck is this? I bathed her today and washed her wee wee off and it either was dirty or had a little dried blood. Again, I have never seen her lick so I know she is not keeping herself that clean. My hubby says her wee wee has to get a lot bigger than it is now to mate. Breeders I need help here or I might miss getting to breed her. I have been waiting for her wee wee to swell and start to really bleed. I know those signs but this stuff is confusing me. |

| the wee wee...is the vulva and should be about three times the normal size. If I am not mistaken I thought your husband is a seasoned breeder, if so isnt he the best to consult, since he can see her first hand? signs of heat http://www.debbiejensen.com/heat_cycle.html

Thanks for your respnse. Yes, my husband is a seasoned breeder and even I know what has to happen for them to breed but this funny stuff going on had me confused. My husband has been looking at her every day with me and he says that sometimes they do this for awhile but Remember he has beagles and I have found that there are a lot of things he does not know about yorkies. Believe me, they are different from beagles. Again, sorry I even asked the question. And, I have read Debbie jenson's site a hundred times. never seen any reference to what I am asking about. Did I already say sorry I asked. |

| I wish I knew, then I could help. I just wanted to say I wish you luck! Oh and don't be sorry you asked...believe me I have asked some questions on here that I am sure some people think I am nuts for...but I didn't know so I asked, I think that is the best part of YT, someone on here usually knows the answer to any Yorkie question...just give it time.

| you shouldnt be sorry you asked, it could be a silent heat, could be she pms's, could be she is a very light bleeder, could be she isnt in heat at all. Basis canine repoduction is the same whether its a Lab or a Yorkie a chi or a cocker...each bitch acts different...the male will tell you if and when she is ready not before just keep an eye out for bleeding...I have one bitch that lifts her leg on the males head just before she is going into full heat another that is very bitchy while in heat and sweet as pie once out...everyone is different. One thing you can depend on is a swollen vulva if its not swollen shes not in heat! I still say your husband can be a great help.

| During a silent heat, there are little, to no signs. No discharge, very little to no swelling of the vulva, etc. It's common for their first heat to be a silent heat. They still can become pregnant though. If you're trying to breed you could take her to the vet for a progesterone test that would indicate when she is ovulating, but it usually takes several tests. Also I have seen multiple silent heats be caused by thyroid imbalances. I, personally, would just let nature take its course and the next heat will be here before you know it and you will be looking at spring/summer babies, rather than fall/winter babies. |

| I'm new to breeding, too, but my mentor told me NOT to bathe my girl within 4-5 days of the planned breeding. She said the male will perform better with the bitch's natural scent, even if she is a bit "dirty". Don't know, but maybe that's why your guy wasn't interested. . . ? |

| better today This female is six years old and has had two or three litters already so she knows what she is doing. i did bathe her yeserday not realizing. But, today he has tried to breed her all day. She is swollen some and he actually entered her and tied three times but they were not good ties. he gets stuch then turns rump to rump and he squeals like he is dying then gets loose. She is very patient standing perfectly still. Last time, I got to him in time and held him still and calmed him down and he still came lose in less than a minute. My husband said it's because he is not able to get in as far as he needs to and that's probably because he is much smaller than she is and she is lifting him off the floor. Each time I try to put him on something to help him reach he gets out of the notion. Boy, oh boy, is this X-rated or what. Sorry to be so graphic. |
