| new born pups I am wanting to purchase a yorkie pup and am unsure of what to look for in the babies. The breeded is very reputable and asked me to come and look at the pups. They are almost two weeks old and do not look like the parents. They are black with white on the chest. Is this right? |

| A white blaze on the puppy chest is perfectly normal, the markings often fade as the puppy ages or easily blends. If this is a repeat breeding from your breeder perhaps she has past puppy pics to share, this will help give you an idea what to expect when they age. hope this helps

| Welcome to YT. Newborn yorkies never look like the parents. Yorkies are very unique. There are some very good books out there on the breed. Popular Dog Breed Magazine has a very good magazine out on Yorkshire Terriers. You can get it at any pet store. It has nice pictures and pretty much goes over everything from head to toe, including the history, how to groom, and common problems. I suggest it to anyone who is wanting to know more about the breed. |

| Puppies never look like the parents. They will when they get a little older. |

| Wait until they're older... It's hard to pick out a puppy at 2wks. You could go to meet the breeder and see her other dogs, But I would not make any decision until they are about 6 wks old. I don't show my puppies until they are 8wks old. Then the minimun age to go into a new home is 12wks. Good Luck and Welcome to YT!

| My parti Yorkies have been born with the markings that are the same as adults. They spread, lighten or whatever, but they still are born with the white, tan and black that they carry into adulthood. This is only to explain that some Yorkies are born and retain markings and colors all their lives. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Newborns look like Rotties. Perfectly normal. Their coloring starts to change at around 4-5 months of age. The white on the chest means that they will have a good quantity of hair...shouldn't be thin and scraggly. Doesn't mean that they'll have good quality just good quantity.

| When they are little they look like rotties for sure. As they get older they will change their colors. Therefore it is hard to say other than go by the parents at this age. |

| pups Many may find this hard to believe, but many, many years ago a breeder told me she destroyed her first litter of Yorkies..3 black and gold babies. She was positive a mutt got the her Yorkie. There were 4 born and she allowed the mom to keep one so she would not be upset..that was so sad and I alway remember it when someone comments on the color of new babies. |
