| 8lbs yorkie needs a sister Hi there! I have a male yorkie that weighs 8 pounds. I am looking for a female yorkie. I was told that he would kill a small pup when trying to mate. I'm really scared about this. At first, I wanted them to mate but now I'm not to sure. How will I keep them apart then? I dont want him hurting his future sister. Please help! I really want a female to keep him company but I'm now scared that he will hurt her. Thanks in advance! |

| Why dont you get your male neutered then look for a female that way he wont spray your house.

| Hi there! Hercules is 2 years 6 months. I guess I will get him neutered now that I will have a girl and after hearing how much hard work it is to breed them. I'm still worried about him trying and hurting her though. Yesterday he was humping a 40 lbs australian sheppard thats still a puppy and another one that's 50lbs plus. Someone told my husband that he would kill her just trying. Is this true? |

| By The Time.... You have him neutered and wait a month for hormones to leave his system. Adding a new puppy should be fine. Try to find a companion closer to his size so they can rough house and wrestle. And Welcome to YT!

I agree with the previous posts, just get him neutered and pick out a bigger female from a litter. Your going to have to watch your boy at the start with the girl pup because there will be a size difference. I wouldn't leave them alone at first until she gets a bit bigger. Just put one of them in a gated area or different room when your not home or can't supervise them. I can't wait to see pics. Good luck!

| Thank you all for your nice welcome and for your support! Hercules is overweight mainly because he eats too many treats! Checking out his pedigree, he should only be about 7 or so but now I dont want to breed him after the scares. I do still want another AKC puppy just so I can have the background. One that I found in the paper will grow up to be 3-5 lbs, is that too small? |

Also you don't have to worry as much with bigger Yorkies. I would love to see Bella gain a pound or two just because I wouldn't have to baby her as much. It sounds like Hercules is just a ball of energy and fun so getting a bigger pup would be less stress on you and more fun for Hercules. This is just MO though. If you neuter Hercules and teach him how to be gentle with a smaller Yorkie (it will take time, a lot of supervision and work for you) but a bigger yorkie can live with a lot smaller one. It's just harder when they're both in their puppy/younger stages because they just want to play and have fun. When their older and learn their boundries with eachother then you don't have to worry as much. But in the end you always have to keep an eye on a 3lber.
