I talked to them and it is a program they have started to try to crack down on the breeders. It is not required that you apply for the program, but you get benefits if you do and are accepted. (Free magazines, references, acknowledgement, the PCP seal shows up on reg papers and pedigrees, etc.) There is a list a mile long of information you have to send to them in order to be accepted. References, pictures of breeding facitlities, permission for any-time inspections, copies of contracts, vet records, DNA testing, etc. I think it's a good idea. I mean, if you are looking for a quality breeder and you have 2 to compare, one who you know had to prove they'd done this list of things and one who didn't..who are you going to choose?

goody is what I think too. It sounds like a great program and I'm sure it will raise the bar for CKC dogs.

Yeah, I'm hoping it will improve their rep too. But hey, they're new and still working to improve. I actually talked w/ a CKC rep yesterday and she said they plan to eventually require this for all of their breeders. I am hoping maybe this will weed out some of the bad ones, like the lady I turned in that had "about 40 or 50" dogs in a chicken house! Their list or requirements are things I already do anyway. (Actually, there are some AKC breeders I've met who I doubt could provide some of this stuff.) Plus, if you are accepted, you get benefits, like a free subscription to their magazine, free ads in it, on their webpage, etc. I plan to send in an application. I'm going to try to get in all in order this weekend. I was just wondering if there was anyone else who'd done this and if CKC had asked for anything not mentioned in addition so I can just go ahead and include that too.

Well I'm happy to hear that. Pretty soon the unethical breeders that hide behind these registries will have nowhere else to go. Keep us updated Misty!!

That's great news to hear. I had a feeling that they would eventually step up to the plate. Most of my dogs are AKC but I have 2 that aren't. I'm glad to hear they are doing this, it will make it easier to tell between the good one's and the bad ones. (breeders that is)
