Question about afterbirth We had 2 litters born yesterday. 1 in the morning and 1 last night. Well my quesion is, our girl last night had 3 puppies. On her last one she chewed her cord off of the placenta before it came out. I watched her for another hour and never saw the placenta come out. No more contractions either. Should I just keep a close eye on her or take her to vet and let them give a oxitotin shot to induce contractions. Thanks for your replys in advance. Scott

You need to take her in to the vet. He will probably give her a shot of oxytocin. If she has retained a placenta and it doesn't come out , she can get an infection and be very sick. If she does get an infection, her milk may not be good for the puppies. Take her to the vet for him to check, this morning.

I took to the vet this morning and got her oxitotin shot and a penicillin shot. She is doing great.
