| Are they really PG I'm new to this whole breeding thing. I have two that are expecting soon (I think). Madie on the 15th and Roxie on the 23rd. I am planning on having them X-rayed at the end of this week but I have very little patients at this point. Madie had an Ultra sound when she was 3 weeks along and the vet said he saw two sacks. He wasn't sure but he thought she may be reabsorbing them. I took Madie back @ 5 weeks and roxie in at 4 weeks. My normal vet had to go out on a call (farming community and he covers a huge area) he was over an hour away and hadn't started heading back yet. I couldn't wait around and the other vet said (after I begged) that she could try to take a look just to make sure they were PG: however, she is use to working with big animals and doesn't usually do anything with small animals, so there would be no counting of pups (they only charged me half price). She was sure that she seen a sack in Madie and in Roxie with something in them that moved. Okay, here is my question. Nether of the dogs seem very big to me. Madie, 4.75 lb to start, gained 1 lb the first 4 weeks and not much since and Roxie, normally 4.5) maybe has only gained about 1/4 lb. They both seem "fuller" an have more prominant nipple and there vulvas are still slightly swollen. I was just wondering in any body else opinion (hopefully someone with experience) what they think.

IN MY OPINION...ultrasounds aren't very reliable...especially if done too early. Save you money and have an x-ray done at 7-8 weeks. With Gracie's first ultrasound, the vet saw 1 pup...she spit out 4.

| Do you have a stethoscope? If not they are not that expensive. Listen for a fast tic-tic-tic. They are a whole lot easier to hear than from a pregnant women so you Will be able to hear them if they are there. Plus it would be a good idea to have a stethoscope for the pups when they are born anyway. Good luck! |

| Kimberly, W/O turning back my calendar I'm not exactly sure on the breed date. However, Today Madie is 56 days and Roxie 49 from their first breed dates (it's written on the days of this month). I'm just wondering if they should be looking really big. Or if they just have one or two do they not get so big. Did anybody have any Yorkies that didn't show a whole lot? They get X-rayed on friday, but I need something to make me feel better until then.

| moms At 56 days they should be fairly well rounded..but it may be one pup. Do they have a clear sticky discharge..that is a very good indication they are pregnant? You will know soon..until then treat them as they are.. |

| I probably have no business saying this, but I would have real concerns being so new to breeding and having a vet who might be more experienced in large animals than they are in these little ones. Your moms were fairly small to breed to begin with and the whole thing seems to have gotten complicated thru no fault of yours. A mentor is a necessity in instances like this. Doesn't have to be a Yorkie breeder but maybe another toy breeder.. I agree with Pat to treat them as if they were for sure preggers. I never have had a sonogram as I don't think they give accurate info at such an early stage in pregnancy. And, the moms can absorb pups or placentas or whatever. So, get your X-rays done and go from there. You should still start your whelping kits and beds. Maybe next time, only one mom can be bred at a time and you can relax and enjoy the whole process. Worrying about these babies is definitely not relaxing and fun.. |

| Trixie didn't really start showing until about 1-1 1/2 wks before she delivered. We had a sonogram done about a week before hand to try to get the most accurate count possible. They counted 4--a very CLEAR 4, and sure enough, that was what she had. |

| Well I was so worked up about the whole thing that I took them to the vet today. Madie did absorb hers and Roxie is not Pregnant. I'm glad that Madie isn't bc I don't feel that she is breeding quality (don't it suck that you have to have them so long and get so attached to them before some things show up? Madie was such a beautiful baby and seemed perfect, but when it came time to lose her baby teeth, which she had all of, not all of her perminant teeth came in ). I'm kind of bummed about Roxie though. I chatted with her breeder quit a bit before I got her, and even though she seems small @ 4.5 lb, that is what size her mama is, and she has the same build. The breeder said that she was the easiest welper that she has and each litter that she has had has been 4 to 5 pups (I've eyeballed the site for a looong time before I got Roxie). As for going to another vet. I wish. The one I have I like and he does have more small animal experince than any other vet in this area. The area that we live in is very rural. There is 400 people in our town. The next town is 7 miles away (with 90 people) The vet we go to is 30 miles away, and the closest "big" town (25,000 People) is over 60 miles away.

| AWWWWWWWWWWW how disappointing...I know the news had to have burst your bubble. Why is the vet convinced she absorbed her pups?

| The vet thinks that she absorbed her pup bc when we had an ultrasound earlier he saw two sack, but felt that they didn't look like they had enough fluid in them and said then that she might reabsorb them. He felt around on her today and couldn't feel any pups so he was pretty confident that that is what happened. The really weird thing is this happend to me on one of my pregnancies. Oh well life goes on. I'm so sad. but when it's meant to be it will happen.
