| Please read :( I have pups that are 2 weeks old. they have all gained weight normaly. the mother had only 1 pup last time and everything was fine. i was a bit nervous with it but we coped and she grown up to be a lovely dog that a family friend owns. this time she had 4 pups and sometimes doesnt seem right. so far shes been fine. but its 2:35am now and i cant sleep. i went down stairs for a drink and found a pup on the cold tiled floor crying. i dont know how long it had been there. she had made no effort to go to it or move it. she had also recently vomited on/around her bed but when i tried to assist she left the pups and ate the vomit. the vomit was clearly her dog biscuits. i cant get her to settle back in the basket. shes eaten a fair bit of food in the last 15 minutes. shes running around in circles. well, not quite running but kind of trotting about. ive left her for a while now to see if she'l settle but i can hear her barking now and again. i really dont know whats going on. shes a bit of an energetic dog anyway. im so worried something bad is going to happen to them. i knwo which one was on the floor so im going to monitor any further neglect. is it comon for new mothers to vomit or is there anyone else whos had a similar problem? please help. im desperate. x |

| Call your vet as soon as possible. It sounds like she could have eclampsia. |

It doesnt sound like eclampsia, throwing up is not uncommon right before or after whelping. Signs of eclampsia is heavy panting, shaking, wobble walk, soon unable to stand. Keep a close eye on mom though, have you taken her temp? that should be done regular for the first three days after whelping making sure there is no infection. I hope this helps please let us know how she is doing

| I will call a.s.a.p. Is eclampsia particularly common or not? i want to keep going to check on her but if i open the door she leaves her basket to greet me (that's her nature). I just want her to settle and rest. The pups are all sleeping. I'm quite gratefull that there is more than 1 this time so they huddle together more and keep warm. im so scared I'm hoping she just ate something stupid in the garden (she tends to do so sometimes) |

Shes not weak or shaking etc. Shes more excited. She's waging her tail and eating alot. She's been good so far. She's been moving the pups around he area to suit her a bit but nothing extreme or dangerous. The vomiting is worrying me more than anythign else really. I suppose theres a chance the pup was latched when she vomited and moved and became unlatched and ended up on the floor, which could have been just before i walked in, but i'd rather not assume that incase its something more serious. I'l keep you updated. thank you all | |

| I am sorry I just read they are 2 weeks old, some moms get very restless at about this time wanting to spend more time out than in with the pups, just try to keep her confined and feeding them... if she continues to throw up call you vet although some moms will regurgate their food for the pups, a close friend has a bitch doing this right now. again I hope this helps please keep us posted!

| Anxiety and restlessness are classic early symptoms as is vomiting. If she has eclampsia, her temperature will rise. I strongly urge you to call your veterinarian. |

| First, CALM DOWN!! I am not shouting, I use caps to show I think something is really important. The more upset you get, the worse your mom is gonna be. Now, do what Kim said and add a little more. Do not give her biscuits for now. She needs nutritious food! So, she should be eating puppy food, canned and or dry. Add either cottage cheese or my preference, a half a calcium tablet that will give her 100 mgm elemental calcium twice a day. For now, dissolve half a tums or similar in warm water and some nurtical or honey(more easily digested that karo or sugar) and syringe her with it. Two weeks is the time that a mom can be prone to eclampsia. Excitedness is also a symptom of that-it can preceed seizures. CHECK HER TEMP! Eclampsia raises the temp and it can go to 107 in a very short period of time. Feed your mom anything she will eat that is good for her. That means maybe a scrambled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt (if you know she can tolerate lactose) and really high quality puppy food. The puppy is another issue. it probably did hang on and get dragged out. IF you can keep it warm and make it clamp onto mom's teat, it will probably be okay. If not, remember you have done your best and you have to take care of the mom and her babies. Remember this-pack dogs regurgitate food to feed the puppies and your mom might have reverted to that behavior. I would not be upset that she ate the vomit...that is what her babies would do in the wild. OMG, I am sorry this is so long but I just want to give you some pointers so you can feel better and calmer. TAKE YOUR MOM AND BABIES TO THE VET ASAP if you have real concerns. Feel free to PM me or send me your number so I can call you if you need more help. Also, I KNOW Kim will help if you call her.. |

| hey! well today she seems ok again. i found 1 pup on the floor when i got home after leaving her for a few hours but i lay some warm blanketing down outside the box area just in case. the pup was fine and went back into the box with its brothers and sisters. one pup has started to open its eyes now. shes so fat! haha. shes not drinking her watver so much so we gave her some weak milky tea and she drank about a pint of it. i dont want to really push that thought because im not sure its safe. caffine etc. she made a huge fuss of us when we got home as usual then returned to her box. I'm still keeping an eye on her but i think it was a false alarm. On another note, The pup she had last time just came back from the vets... she now has a phantom pregnancy!!! We don't get much luck!! haha thank you all so much xx |
