Animal Smiley 036 When to breed??

My husband and I want to breed Teddy at least once so we can have a puppy. He's about 8 months old now and the vet said he needs to get his baby teeth out soon. The price for it is around $230. If we get him neutered at the same time, it will be only $230 for both surgeries. But if we get the baby teeth pulled out at seperate times than the neutering, than we have to pay for 2 seperate surgeries. My question is, how long should we wait until we get the baby teeth out? We don't want to have to pay double. We want to breed him asap and then get everything done because we know that dogs tend to have less health problems if they are neutered. How would we know Teddy is ready to breed. Our trainer says he probably will be shooting blanks until about 8 months...which is where he is at right now.

This is really not the best reason to breed your dog. There are a great many things to take into consideration before making that choice.

Angry Very Upset

I am fairly new to YT as well as a yorkie mom. I am not aware that there are suppose to be "rules" on why someone should breed. So what should be the main reason to breed a dog? I am asking questions on this site because I am new and figured I can get some HELPFUL ADVICE...not get LECTURED in a rude way. It seems like the "senior" YT members are "attacking" and at times being rude to new members from other posts that I have read also. To the moderators, this is not good. It's chasing the new people away and preventing them from coming on to post again. Have you notice most of the post are by the same group of people?I know a lot of people who only read on YT and not post because they are afraid of some backlash. I was going to donate to this site because I think it was a good site at first. But now, I'm not so sure if I want to be on a site where certain people are very opinionated and not very helpful. Maybe Sylvian should read the note that the moderator posted on a diff. thread. I don't understand why a lot of people on here are against breeding. It seems like a lot of people on here have more than 1 yorkie. So breeding has to be done to let that happen. We want to breed our yorkie because we want another puppy and trust the other breeder that we have talked to. The other breeder has her dogs for shows. Why is that so WRONG? I am very upset and don't know if I want to come back to this site again.

WOW! I didn't know that you'd react this way. I only gave the link because there is good info on that link and lots of people thought so, too. Sorry!

I'm so sorry you feel this way. I have'nt been here long on YT. I don't believe people are delibratily trying to upset you in any way. You may not always like the advice you are given. But I give advice from my Heart along with my experience. Yes, people do breed yorkies, I do. But it can be a stessful heartache a lot of times. I have heard my share of horror stories. I would just like you to take all into consideration before breeding. I would love it if you would reconsider staying on YT.

I really don't think anyone was trying to attack you and get you upset. You came here asking for advice and you were pointing in the direction of a thread that has lots of helpful info for beginners...I got alot from it as well and I have been studying for years and breed as well. I think you were just being offered help. Sorry if you were offended. If you are already working with a good show breeder, then you are already taking good steps towards your goal. Just remember, people can only advise you based on what info you have given them. No one here had any clue as to what knowledge you have and who you have worked with. I think you were just being offered some resources to get you started.

Hello and welcome to YT..Please don't leave..Not everyone is rude.
Some have strong opinion on certain topics..you will learn which ones or which.
You will learn alot, if you stick around.
Use what you need and pass on the rest.
I agree with you ..I wish everyone would answer the question without the lecturing, and attacts.
As to your question I read somewhere that a Male can father as early as 7 months but better chances the older they get. The only way to know is to get a sperm count through the Vet or just try him and see.
Your vet can also tell you what testing needs done on the male and the female before breeding.
Some Yorkies do have problems retaining teeth..
Ask your Vet if you can wait for awhile on getting the teeth pulled.
I just had my 1 year olds puppy teeth taken out.
Good luck to you...Sherry

I know how you feel. I have been "yelled" at once or twice or ignored for questions that I have asked concerning breeding. It does seem that so many people here are against it. Which I don't understand either, but I'm sure that I will never ask.
On the other hand, if you stick around you will get alot of great info here. The positive feedback and info definantly outweighs the other stuff.

Um, not to start anything, but the title of her thread is "When to breed?"

This may also be where people got the indication?
Hmmm...I though she came here asking for advice and I thought that was what she was given. I was going to direct her to the same thread, txshopper73 just beat me to it. There is lots of good info on that thread.

Default Breeding ? answered!

Anywho, I understand that you don't want a double surgery bill, you want to breed him at least once. If I were you I would get his teeth pulled immediatley, if you wait until he proves himself a stud, his dental surgery could be much more expensive. If your need to neuter him out weighs your need to breed I would go ahead and get it done ASAP..JMHO!!
