| Im a newbie w/questions Aloha everybody, my husband and I just joined this forum. We have a 7lb. 2 1/2 yr. old "Lewie" and a 3.4lb. 10 month old girl coming on 4-1 from Australia. We live in Hawaii and have about zero breeders here. We all fight for the avaliable puppies. My concern is that the girl I have coming is not "puppy" age. Will I be able to bond with her? Lewie attached to my husband right away and I'm hoping my little girl will do the same with me. Is a 10 month old fully grown? After listening in I've gathered that breeding these two would be wrong, is that correct and why exactly? After a bath, Lewis scootches all over the carpet, I say he doesn't like to be wet, my husband says he's a happy dog.....who's right if either? We always have questions and I'm constantly "searching the web" for answers and never get the answers. This forum has provided me with/more info than any other source. For this reason we joined immediatley. I am very interested in "everything" Pat says as she appears to be very knowledgeable. We would appreciate any help we can get!!! Thanks so much. |

| Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk! As far as the older dog being able to bond - ABSOLUTELY! We got Sandy last year, her estimated age was around 6-7 years old. You would now NEVER know she hasn't been my dog her entire life. She follows me around, wants constant attention, I'm her person Good luck with your newest addition. I'm sure some of our other members will have imput for you on your other questions as well!

| Welcome Welcome..glad you found this forum..there are such nice people here. Everyone has something they can contribute, as we all pets lovers. You will bond to her just fine and you should not have much of a problem with them bonding..just like with a new baby coming into a home, the older ones can be upset for a few days. Since the female is an adult, she may not like it if your male is too "attentive" towards her...but he will learn or get nipped. As to breeding..your female is far too small to breed to a male her size let alone a male twice her size plus more. I would spay her and neuter your male..he may start marking with an unspayed female in the house. Do they still have a quarantine in Hawaii? |

| I think scootching after a bath is to get dry and to get that "yucky" shampoo smell off! |

Your baby is not full grown at the age of 10 months there are slow growers and there are fast growers, most of their weight, length and height is within the first year but a dog is not fully grown until about 2-3 years old and coat color doesnt mature for 2 years plus. Breeding your 7 lbs male to a much smaller female should not be done you could jepordize the health of your female and may even lose her during birthing the puppies would be too large, my recommendation is to neuter your male before she comes so NO ONE IS TEMPTED. Scoothes his bottom? if that be the case perhaps take him to a groomer or a vet and have them clear the anal gland, usually only has to be done once and it should stop unless of course you think he is just drying himself off. hope this helps

| reply to ?'s Thanks everyone for your input. I know now NOT to breed the 2 dogs (I figured as much), but good to be sure with more opinions. Lewie is definitly not scootching an anal gland, he doesn't like to be wet!!!! Just like I thought. Much aloha. |

| Not sure if this is true (as I'm waiting to get my first yorkie later this month), but I've heard that puppies that are a little older take a little longer to bond than young puppies. I remember reading that you should not take the puppy anywhere for a couple of days so that the puppy will bond with you before you introduce him or her to other people. Good luck with your new baby! |

| don't worry one bit! 2 Friday's ago, I got my lil 16 month old male named Murphy! He was the breeder's male dog....one of her 5 personal dogs. He was very much loved in this home by his owner, owner's family, and 4 siblings (dogfriends)...so I was a bit worried. (She sold him b/c a 6 lb male wasn't all that great in her breeding program, FYI.) However, Murphy has bonded with me greatly! He won't leave my side and is just the most well-adjusted dog ever! Such a sweetheart! I even renamed him after all these months and he's picked up on it easily. So no worries for you! |

| Welcome to YT! I'm a local girl from O'ahu but have been living in Utah for over 10 years I think you will have no problems bonding with your new pup. My two always run around rubbing on the carpet trying to get the wet and smell off of them after their baths, silly things. I wish Hawaii would lift their quarantine, I would so love my babies to meet my family and friends in Hawaii
