| Am I in the wrong? I have a problem, I hope you guys can help me! I am getting my puppy next weekend. He will be 9 weeks old. I paid 900.00 for him. I talked to the person I am getting him from earlier today. I asked if she will be getting his second set of shots done. She acted like she was put out by me asking. She also said that the vet might want to do a dewormer there too, and if he did, she said she wasn't going to do it, and I could do it when I get him here, cause it is like 40.00. I am just wondering, what am I paying 900.00 for if she doesn't want to pay for his second set of shots and worming? Am I in the wrong for getting upset with her? I also will not be getting a health guarantee of any kind. I am so upset over what to do.

| I would be looking for another breeder. A good breeder would not release a pup that young, would have to pay the vet anyway for a checkup and health cert. before it left, would do their utmost to make sure that pup was covered by proper immunizations and worm free before it left their care. A good breeder would also give you a minimum guarantee of 1 year on any genetic defects and be glad to answer your questions and help you in anyway for the lifetime of that pup. Yorkie health problems can run into thousands of dollars in vet bills due to their small size....you should not want to risk paying for a cheaper pup that may cost big in the long run. jmo

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | why wouldn't a breeder offer a worming ? I would think this is relativily inexpensive to do and to me - it should be done BEFORE the puppy leaves.... It sounds like these are a few things that should be done - but if I were in your shoes - and I'd be going straight to the vet anyway with the puppy - but it sounds like this breeder may not be all that concerned with how the puppies leave ... |

| OMGOSH! I know you have probably looked long and hard for a yorkie puppy but 9 weeks IMO is much too young. A reputable breeder would be offering you a health contract including a spay/neuter agreement. I would take my 900 dollars and run the other way. If they are balking at one set of shots and a worming God knows what else they have cut corners on!! I would start at the YTCA breeders in your area(you can find a list of these on the website listed by state) and if they do not have available pet puppies perhaps they know someone who does. It is so worth waiting a little longer. |

| I am afraid if I tell her I don't want the puppy, she will not have my money to give me back, except 550.00 of it, cause that is what I owe her when I pick him up. I don't want to add getting my money back to the headaches in my life! I don't know. This is the first time I have had second thoughts on this. Is my gut telling me something?

| I feel for you and I understand your concerns about your money. I think you need to insist on getting your money back and even if it takes awhile.BUT that 350 may be the cheapest money you spend if you get an unhealthy puppy. If you signed no contract and have a cancelled check you should be able to get your money back tho. I think there is a thread on deposits here someplace, see if that helps. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. |

| Have to agree with everyone here. Better to lose part of your money, then to get home with an unhealthy pup, which could cost more money, not to mention the heartache. Find another breeder. Look for one here. Sorry. |

| Thanks guys for all your help and advice. I know that my gut is telling me to not get the puppy. I have fell in love with him, and I have become friends with this girl. I know that it is a big red flag when I have to "argue" with this person about if she is getting his shots or not. This is how I look at it, if he is in her care when shots are due, then she needs to do them, even if I am picking him up the next day. I mean, afterall, isn't that what all that money is for? I will think about it today. Please, keep giving me all your advice!

| One more bit of advise and I think you are beginning to see all the problems. If you decide to not take the pup, fight for your money back but I don't think you will ever get it and you must realize that one trip to the vet with a sick pupand an overnight stay and tests can cost you $1000 . Hate to be so negative but so many have fallen for the darling pretty face and let their heart cloud their mind. Good Luck

| I know it's going to be tough, but I would walk away. You have no guarentee that this puppy isn't gravely ill and will live. Being out $350 is better than being out of $900. If she doesn't want to pay for a $40 dewormer and a second round of shots, then where the heck is all of your money going? To me, it sounds like she's more concerned with her profit than this puppy. Who knows what else has she neglected to do to save her profit? A good breeder won't cut corners at the sake of your puppy's health. |
