i was thinking, it said something about not getting the paper work right, so maybe that doesen't mean a bad breeder, AKC is very strict and the lady was elderly, maybe she just couldn't keep up with it all, it was concerning a doberman not a yorkie anyways. APRI aren't nearly as strict as AKC. I'm not knocking AKC, but you really have to be on the ball with them. I'm not knocking the breeder either. I'm very satisfired with my little pee wee i got from her. He is a beautiful healthy two lb male and i've had a litter of two females and a male by him, which turned out beautiful.

Too bad you can't do a search on that site by State. It's a great site but I'd like to see breeders just in my state.

It looked to me like most of the problems were paperwork oriented. I guess if you get AKC papers on your puppy, you wouldn't need to check this list.

Doctors/Insurance/Medicare are sorta the same, the paperwork can be so extensive and if someone has a problem with the other, they will discontinue service through them.

Default akc

Problems with paperwork speaks volumns as a reputable breeder. Many do not allow AKC to inspect their records and that leads to more problems. It is very important for a buyer to get the the bottom of a "paper work" problem..
AND paper work porblems can come from fraud. Take your finger nail and scratch the surface of a paper work problem and "bugs" usually crawl out..be careful.

The list is not complete. There are breeders that are suspended but not listed. There is no way to tell when the last time was that the list was updated.

You can call AKC when purchasing a pup to find out the status of the breeder. Find out the kennel name and the owner's name.

Default akc

You are sooo right...the list is not updated every week or even every month...call AKC..anyone getting a Canadian dog has a wealth of info about the breeder from the kennel club.

This is NOT true. I know from experience. Carter's breeder gave me papers on him -- the original pre-printed registration form. I thought all was well in the world until I sent them in.

After his breeder registered the litter, something typically done soon after they are born, they notified the breeder of a problem on a previous litter after DNA testing was done. Evidently there was a multiple sire breeding that she was unaware of.

Even though I had my registration papers in hand (pre-printed by their office), the registration was not processed because she became "under investigation" after the litter was registered but before I actually purchased the pup.

Think about it . . . if you don't purchase your pup until he/she is 12 to 16 weeks old, there is too much time that passes between litter registration and you actually submitting your paperwork for registration.

I didn't purchase Carter until he was almost 6 months old.

Learn from my mistake . . . call AKC!

Here in São Paulo, the responsible entities for the emission of pedigree don´t make any verification on the breeder.

Some few breeders still make an excellent work, but the great majority is puppy mills.

Many kennels with champion dogs and many headings, sell sick puppies and with serious genetic problems.

I´m so sad with this reality, but I fight so that it changes.

Default Thank you

Thank you for your message. There is a great many dogs shipped to south Flroida from South America to be sold in pet shops. I was curious about this practice until a Brazilian breeder Florida told me it is very inexpensive to buy pups and resell in the USA.

Unfortunately, it´s true for some reasons.

The main reason is the tax of exchange between our currency (real R$) and dollar. Today U$ 1,00 is equivalent the R$ 2,65.

If I sell one male puppy for R$ 1.500,00, it´s equivalent +/- U$ 570,00, plus the price of the transport tax is around U$ 300,00, the total value is in U$ 870,00.

But this value still high if is compared with practised for puppy mills in Brazil. The average is about R$ 500,00 or +/- U$ 190,00 for one male puppy.

This difference of prices could be explained by all the necessary cares that a responsible breeder must have with its yorkies and the costs of these.

Some puppy mills sell all yours puppies to other person that resell for ten times more expensive. The person that buy whole litter will pay less than someone buys just one puppy.

The puppy mills buy and sell dogs without no responsibility, as they were a goods.

It´s so disgusting.... but like my grandma usually told me: "ant and bad behavior exist in any place".

Default mills

We have plenty of mills here in the US..it is not a situation only in your country. Your Grandmother is certainly right..bad behavior is everywhere. We are only responsible for our own behavior..thank you for sharing your experiences.

Default AKC and CKC and all the others

The story you told of why your breeder left AKC is what I hear daily from people looking for help. No one is going to say that left AKC voluntarily-- its either because they were too much trouble or too expensive or some other lame excuse. Not because they were " suspended" either from the condition of the dogs, failure to do paperwork or allow inspections. It could also be because they didn't have AKC registered dogs to begin with. AKC is the only one that does inspections, and has the DNA right to test the dogs to make sure the paperwork matches . I've had several inspections- since 1994 and they've all been fine ( of course LOL). The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America has a great website-- YTCA.ORG
Now before I get thrown off on my first day-- I'm not saying that CKC and all the others are bad-- just that I wouldn't waste my money

i too, have seen the "hall of shame" as the website i visited put it with the akc suspensions....very sad that breeders can't live up to the responsibility of raising these precious little babies as good as they portray that they do to so many people when in fact they aren't. great info and thanks!
