| If you want to risk the dams that's fine. But if you're feeding a high quality diet key words being high quality there's no need to feed puppy food. Yes dams need extra nutrition which is why you increase food intake and just let the dam eat as much as she wants towards the ending of the pregnancy. I usually free feed my dams at the end so they can eat as much as they want. |

| This is a yorkie forum so we are referring to Yorkie’s who are very small as puppies and losing the slightest weight and dehydration can kill so they should be hospitalized.

| Many vets also don't know much about breeding period. They mostly just recycle things that they've heard or was taught but people are learning their ways and views are out dated to the least. I would say it's being done right when you barely have any c-sections most of your puppies live and go on to be service/therapy dogs, police dogs, Champions/ earn titles, and great working dogs, etc. |

| There's no reason why they can't be hydrated at home it's very simple. Most people can even give fluids under the skin it's not complicated at all and most vets will even show them how if they ask. |

| Most people do not know how to give fluids and most even if they did wouldn’t be comfortable doing. Most also require nausea meds and antidiarrheal medicine. Depending on how bad the bleeding in the stool is some might need hemoglobin. Small dogs are nothing to play with and the majority of them should be hospitalized except in rare occasions.
