| Not Sure My female yorkie is two years old and came into heat in December. I left to go somewhere Dec 17, 2016 and came home to blood on the floor and assuming my male got her. I am unsure if she is pregnant or not it will be five weeeks on Saturday since that day. Yesterday she was throwing up like crazy and had diarhea and was sluggish. Today she is back to normal same old self. She is very little. Question is there is no way to tell if she is pregnant or not without taking to vet correct? Also how many weeks should I wait to take her in to see if she is pregnant I don't want to go in too soon. I just want to make sure if she is or not so I can start dong everything I neeed to do for her being pregnant. Makes me nervous because she is tiny so want her to just be safe. |

| You have a intact male and female, you knew one day they would mate. It should be burned into your memory how to prepare for a pregnancy and whelping and not wait until your female is pregnant to start learning what needs to be done. I do hope you know that the male has to be SMALLER then the female that you are planning to breed. Depending what you mean by your female is "tiny" this pregnancy can be very dangerous for her. If you are asking YT members for help I have to assume you do not have a mentor to help you should your girl be pregnant. I have never bred any female I ever had, they were spayed and safe. I do hope a breeder comes along and offers up advice and suggestions. Good luck.

| I kinds expected this response from someone after reading through some of the posts posted after I posted this. I know you have your opinion and I have mine. I planned this to happen and waited until she was over two years old. I do have a mentor as well and a vet. I was just posting to ask a question and will call a vet next week. Just because I have an intact male and female doesn't necessarily mean she is pregnant. Please don't jump to conclusions though as I wanted this and planned it at least one time. This is a forum and should be a place for advice, questions, and information so as a member for a long time this is where I come and my breeder that I got both my babies from. |

| Well went to vet and he felt her stomach and said she isn't pregnant. I don't know how they can feel at 34 days and say she isn't pregnant. I asked about a blood test and he said they are $250 but if I wanted to wait 12-13 days we could do an X-ray for $125. My gut was they bred. My male couldn't do it before and tried but when we came home I assumed the blood was from them mating. She was spotting before while in heat but this was more and they weren't hurt and both were fine so they didn't get hurt and bled on floor. vet said they don't bleed the first mating . Then she was throwing up for an hour Wednesday and I assumed morning sickness vet said they don't ha e morning sickness. My gut was telling me she was leg ant. I just don't know how they can feel and say she isn't pregnant. Maybe she isn't and he is right but in 10 days if she acts any different and has anymore symptoms I will do the X-ray. Mentor thinks I should have the X-ray done in 10 days |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I think what you need to do is get ready for a whelp, just in case. Maybe your. Mentor or breeder can lend you their whelp ing supplies and hopefully one will be available to assist. I did not realize the test was so expensive. X-rays are a good idea also measurement to see if the pups will fit through birth canal.

| Yeah my breeder said to have the X-rays and they do have morning sickness and sometimes bleed with first mating. My gut is she is pregnant I could be wrong guess we will see. The vet just said at this stage he should be able to feel little bubbles in the uterus and he didn't feel anything at all except that she needed to poop lol he said she felt full? Hopefully he knows Yorkies. We just moved and had to find a new vet. He is super nice but hopefully he knows what he is doing since I don't want any issues if she is. He did say X-ray should be at 45-50 and not later though. |

| The time for feeling little bubbles passed. I would consider finding a different vet there's absolutely no risks to using x-rays after day 50 it's actually more useful all of my pregnant girls are x-rayed between 59-62 days it gives a better view of puppies, their sizes, and positions before whelping most breeders wait until closer to the due date for these reasons. If you google dog pregnancy you'll find a lot of helpful information. Not a lot of vets are well educated on reproduction it's not really taught it's glanced over for more "important" subject matters. If your girl is pregnant and an emergency were to happen you're going to need a more knowledgeable vet or you can put your girl at risks. When my vet retired and I had to find a new one I literally grilled them on everything they knew about dog pregnancies, emergency procedures a pregnant dam might need, if they knew how to preform a c-section if they ever had how many what were the out comes what's your personal success rate with them things like that because you literally never know what could happen and having an inexperienced vet does no one any good. |
