| do you know anything about showing dogs, if not it's not easy to start. Do you have a friend that is a show breeder who could advice you and go to the breeder with you. Is this breeder a show breeder, if not it sort of hard to get a show dog from a regular breeder. I have owned several pups from show breeders and they would take their pups to something called puppy confirmation classes to get them used to being shown. Normally those classes were run buy the local YTCA. You could go to their web site and see if they have links to the closest club in your area and attend a meeting. It's normally a small group of people and they tend to be clicky where you have to be patience and gain knowledge so you will be accepted by them. Good luck

| To be honest, most everyone on Yorkie Talk (myself included) does not have the knowledge needed to determine if a dog is show quality. Some dogs are so obviously pet quality (like my two) that we would have no problem looking at them and saying they are definitely not show material (but certainly no less great pets). I've been to dog shows and have seen the Yorkies in the ring, and to me they all looked gorgeous and I have no idea why one was chosen over the other, but of course the experts in the ring know all the finer points and the reasons why. That being said, there are a few show breeders here that would know if those pups had potential. Perhaps if you could get pictures (lots of pictures from different angles) and videos to see their gait and post them here there could possibly be someone that could see if any of them have potential. Is the breeder you are talking to a show breeder? If so, they are extremely picky (and rightfully so) regarding who gets their pups that are show quality. If they are not a show breeder, I would not believe anything they say about a pup's show potential, but that's just me.

| Your breeder should have already had them evaluated. Has she taken them to a show and let some of the breeders and handlers look at them? It is so hard to know with a young puppy. I waited until my girl was 16 months before deciding to get her as a show dog. Are the mom and dad champions? It is too hard to tell from the pictures if they are breed standard. I would have someone knowledgeable, who can put her hands on them, evaluate them for you.

| It's very hard to evaluate show prospects just through pictures. Gait and movement, top line, structure, balance, attitude all need to be carefully considered. I can offer my opinion based on just the photo's you shared, to me all four have some faults. The ears are to wide set on 2,3,4 the muzzle on 1 is a little short and there isn't a full stop from the bridge of the nose to the head. At the end of the day though, if you trust the breeder and you have realistic goals and you provide a loving, permanent home for the dog then go for it. Showing Yorkie's can be really fun, it is a lot of work, time, and money but the bond you will have with your dog will make it all worth it. |

| From what I understand, they evaluate the puppies at 12 weeks, 5 months and 8 months. Ricardo is very honest, his dogs are healthy, and his reputation is impeccable. I think this 4 part video series will help you, a little, to figure out what you are looking for in a show dog. Saludos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EMn1mRPIzM |

| I agree with swan, after seeing the video, noticed a flaw were the ears are wide set but my dogs ears were not too big, they were beautiful ears. A lot of dogs have flaws and there are grooming techniques they use to cover some of them. For me, I'm looking for a therapeutic pet, mine was in a terrible heartbreaking accident last month. I'm not interested in showing or breeding. The puppy I bought from him 3 years ago was the best little pal I've ever had. He was really square and his gate was perfect; he was very healthy. He was the most beautiful dog I've ever had. I'm getting another puppy from him soon. He had a puppy that I was interested in but told me the fur on the back was courser than my previous pet and knowing how picky I am encouraged me to wait, which I am doing. |

| If you are still not sure, call the federacion. Ricardo was the name they gave me. If you look at the federacion website, just because they advertise on the site does not mean they are the best. If you plan a trip to Mexico, you could come to a show and talk with the breeders that are showing. The shows are announced on the federacion website. When I went to a local show, most of those showing had puppies for sale and you can talk to them while they're grooming. They are so friendly and helpful. They want you to be part of all of the activities. From talking to people on this forum, it sounds like some of shows in the USA, have a lot of people who are very freson.
