Default Hello, Have a question about ears!

Hello, I have a 16 week ,4.5 pound yorkie male that has droopy ears. I have tried the using masking tape as suggested by a Yorkie book I have, took tape off after 4 days and they stand for several hours then droop over again. Does anyone have any other suggestions??
Thanks

Have you shaved the ears? Do that, if you haven't, to get some of the weight off of them. You may need to keep them taped up for a full week.
Then, give them a day of rest, and retape for another week, even if they are standing. That's what someone on this forum suggested to another person asking the same question awhile back.

I have heard, though, that some Yorkies' ears just never stand. Personally, unless you plan to show, I wouldn't worry much about it. It's just an appearance thing, and I think they look cute with droopy ears. Just my opinion, for what it's worth!

Good luck!

I wish you the best of luck. My pups ears went up and down for ,one would be up and then the other one would be up but they didn't stay up at the same time it actually was really cute but they were both up by 6 months.

Default Up & Down

I didn't tape my Caesar's ears. I just thought it looked too funny and must have been to uncomfortable. But I wish I had and at times I love him just the way he is. Cleo's ears stood up when I brought her home at 11 wks. Then a few weeks later she started the one up one down then they both went back up and stayed.
So I have the best of both worlds. I often think about taping Caesar's just to see if they would stay but probably not. Cleo would just pull the tape off anyway. I attached a pic of both so you can see that they are both beautiful, up or down.

My yorkie is 4 months old now and i tried the taping several times when he was younger, didnt work at all. I quit worrying about it until a month ago i trimmed the hair on the top half of his ears as close as i could (I read you should trim it in the shape of a V). I kept it trimmed and after about 2 weeks one ear came up, with the other following several days after. I think that if they're gonna stand up they will after keeping the hair short for awhile. And If you try taping again, it might work better with the hair trimmed.

Tigers ears were dropping for the longest time until he got to 13 weeks. I was worried for the longest time thinking it will never stand. Some yorkies just takes longer than others, so don't give up hope yet. In the meantime, continue to tape his ears. My daughter thinks that droopy ears gives them more personality and softens their looks . . . . and I totally agree.

Good luck . . .

Teething can cause the ears to droop.
Shave the ears and give cheese, cottage cheese and rubbing the ears helps too.
My female, her ear were up and down..
Good Luck.. I hope they stay up for you.

If you are going to 'shave' the ears, do it right. Scissors won't work. Go to the drug store and buy a small pair of mens cordless mustache and beard hair trimmers. They run about $15.00 and work very well. Some have an AC rechargeable plug, some are battery powered. Get your pup used to them gradually.

Default kiki

KiKi has one ear up and one ear down....cause I took out the tape when I got her, they kinda smell bad..but I think that's one of the reason why she's so cute!!

She-Ra is 3, her ears have never stood up. I tried every method, but nothing. Harley on the other hand, his are stuck in erect mode!!! Which is fine with me, but I love them either way, up or down!!!

I agree with shaving them versus taping. My babies get their first ear shave at 4 wks and weekly after that. It is true they can go down during teething. If you truly want the ears to stand them keep at them, and shave both sides and the whole ear not just the tips. When they go up you can go back to just tipping them.
