| How to get momma to clean up her baby after c section? I was hoping I can get some ideas on how to resolve this matter. As many know princess had her baby Valentina on valentines day via c section. She was rejecting the baby so I started formula tube feeding. Yesterday I supervised nursing and stoped the formula. The baby is gaining weight she was 4.85 birth today 5.55oz. She seems more comfortable this morning nursing the baby. But she still not licking the baby. When the baby crawls up to her face she just turns her face. Every now and then she will smell her. I'm still not leaving her and the baby alone because she seems careless around the baby and I'm scared she might suffocate when she crawls behind her and under her. Hoping some breeders can give me some advice on how to get the licking and cleaning started. I tryed putting her smell on the baby since she has discharge dirint work. Tryed giving her nutrical and when she was licking my finger put the baby there not working either. So I'm still picking up the slack till she gets it. Could it be that she's a first time mamma?

| You will have to keep cleaning baby and stimulating her until momma decides she wants to fool with the baby. She may not ever accept the pup as her responsibility. You cant force maternal instinct on momma....just keep working with her. Continue to weigh the baby.....I see you stopped tube feeding....it was working great, so I am confused by that decision to abruptly cut off the feedings, rather than spacing them further apart and perhaps cutting back on the amount, to encourage more nursing from momma.....In any event, you dont want baby to start loosing weight. |

| I would try putting a bit of baby pee and/or poo on Mama's paw. I would be very leery of putting anything resembling food on the baby. It's still a bit soon after the surgery, IMHO, as she more than likely still has some anesthesia in her system.

| Also try putting baby's butt up to Mama (butt to face, not face to face)... as that's a more natural way to introduce them.

| When my momma didn't want to feed her pups, (she would t even let them near her) we had to eliminate them, and mom actually licked poo off my daughters hand. We then started leaving the wipe with the pee and poo on it off to the side and mom would eat the poo off the wipe. Eventually she started licking pups and taking care of them. I would offer some poo to mom and see if she eats it and then do as suggested and leave poo on puppy's butt and have mom lick it. It takes a while for those hormones to kick in sometimes.

| Feeling blessed My daughter came over to help out since I've been on fur baby duty for 2 nights. Princess got real protective of Valentina and when I came out of the shower she was licking that baby everywhere I'm so happy right now. I just want to thanks all of you expirienced members for your help.
